Whatever you think about these, they sold out in a hurry.

Tried a variety of crossfeed settings and plug ins and never could find anything that works for me. Same with Dolby Headphone on my computer. The only thing I've found that really has any effect on the soundstage for me is if it is a binaural (or similar) recording. Even then it rarely extends much farther than the insides of my head. Rabbit… re: comments on HF… "BAAAAAA"

My hope with waiting would be letting somebody else eat the exchange and shipping/duty fees. Have to wait till the drop goes live to even see what the shipping charges to Canada are, but based on other drops it ain't cheap. Also can't say yet if they'll even ship to Canada or if a forwarding service will be needed.
BTW, what makes the HD600 and 650 different in the first place? Different drivers? Earcup size/shape/composition? Basically what I'm getting at is, can a 600 be turned into a 650 or vise versa? Chatted with a couple people before and apparently the only diff between a hd558 and hd598 is a piece of foam (or something along those lines). Wondering if a similar thing applies with the 600 series

That's a good point about the used market. Thanks for bringing it up. Now it does make sense to wait, worse case scenario I'll jump on the next drop Cheers!!

Wondering myself if this isn't just a prelude to a replacement announcement? Then again AKG still sells 701/702s for full price (or maybe they don't now with the 7xx) Anyways, I am thinking about jumping on the drop, but wondering if you folks could toss some opinions on the hd600 vs. hd650 comparison. From what I've read the 650 is supposed to be smoother and a touch warmer. Because of that I've been leaning towards the 600 - all my gear is on the warmer side already. I've also read the there really is no difference between the 2 other than colour, so I've been a bit confused (not hard to do ). $199 USD should probably work out to ~$350 CAD once the craptactular (we want Mark Carney back) exchange and shipping is factored in, so that's still round half price based on the current market here - tho that may change now…

Your guys impressions are quite a bit different from the others I've read. So much so that's why I'm wondering if that particular pair isn't FUBAR. Maybe there was a revision recently that changed the sound for the worse? Bad QC can effect everyone - not sure if you guys are familiar with the earpad gate that happened with some recent batches of Fidelio X2s. Some people got crap ones, mine were fine (other than smelly earpads, but that went away). Personally, I'd try check out another pair (not sure how hard they'd be to audition on your side of the world) and see if the same issues exist before writing them off. On the other hand if a pair this bad can make it to store shelves, it might be better to just back away slowly

Considering the QC issues, is it possible there is another manf. defect messing with the sound? I guess it's too late to send them back for warranty tho…

There's a new Massdrop on the he350 if anyone fancies a go!! Sweet, but I might just look for a good deal on a used pair. After doing some quick math, after shipping and converting our garbage currency the price pretty much doubles… Also see though that the AKG 553 are also being redropped for an extra $20 over the 350s… worth the extra cash?? (although this'd be another case of trying to find a used deal)

The HM5 are way more comfy. With the stock Grado pads the phones are essentially on-ears for me which I can't tolerate anymore - had to return a pair of t51p for the same reason. I also think the SS might be bigger due to the drivers being farther from my ears, but I can't be certain - doing swaps is out of the question ATM because I doubt I could get the adapters off without breaking them (plus my auditory memory is almost non-existant)
btw, I had to ditch the hp150 headband. Too much clamp

Been reading through a couple of thread where folks talk about swapping earpads to change the sound and was wondering… exactly what effect does the HM5 earpads have on the sound? I have a pair of sr125 that I modified to fit the earpads and since I have no way of measuring I'm not sure what the earpads are doing to the sound. I installed the pads mostly for the comfort - the stock earpads were the L-cush and I could only stand to wear them for ~45 minutes. Bought some S-cush, but they were not much better. So I decided to try out the HM5 velour, much better. The one thing I noticed about the sound was the bass extended a tad lower, but I never really have done any critical listening with them (and to be honest, I wouldn't be that good at it). I also tried the pleather ones, but they did make things too bright, giving the treble a "ringy" character that isn't there with the velours. I do realize that this is a pretty vague question to ask, and the best I could get is speculation since no one has heard them. I'm just hoping for a generalization if the pads do in fact make a consistent change regardless of the phones. Is it the material makes the biggest changes, or is it the size? Does the fabric covering the driver act as a filter? How would using the cork adapter rings change things? Until I punched the holes into them they were way to bassy.

Hanging style stands can indeed make dents in the foam, which is why I didn't use mine with the hp150s. It is fairly cheap and easy to mod them to disperse the pressure points- just add some foam to the stand. Of course, if your phones have an unpadded wire headband (think AKG 702) then its a non issue. Haven't tried any of the compression type stands, but having constant pressure on the earpads doesn't strike me as the best idea. BTW. HF has a thread about custom stands, might want to check it out for some ideas.

I got a SS stand made by one of my Lab brothers that my X2 lives on. My Grados fold flat so they happily live in the nightstand drawer. My HP150 came in a case so I don't need to worry about them. My iem stay (mostly) in their supplied cases.

I remember reading somewhere (possibly on Fiio's forum) that their players can have problems with certain Samsung branded cards. I would think that is possibly because of incompatibilities with the memory card's controller, much in the same way that OTG was so problematic (again this is just speculation on my part).
Those mSD adapters are horrible. All the ones I've had have been sooo inconsistent in their speed. Start a transfer - extremely slow. Cancel, reinsert the card, start transfer again - much faster. I've given up using them and just stick with the good old USB adapter (the card reader in my new laptop isn't very good either). Speaking about USB adapters, does anybody know if it's worthwhile getting an USB 3 model? I have a 2.0 right now, but not sure if the cards can write fast enough to justify getting a 3.0 replacement (my external HD is wonderfully faster on a proper USB3)

Just want to point out that you can now mod the iClassics to use 2 SD cards - the full size ones not msd. That means now if you're will to spend the cash you can have an ipod with up to a 1tb library (but I shudder to think how bloody slow the thing will be with that much music, even with rockbox)
