That's a great idea! Except all the sea lions know Senns taste like tuna...so the losses during shipment will be near total. Fancy a soggy single 58x driver? Pretty sure this stereo thing is just a marketing fad to allow manufacturers to sell us twice as much stuff!

Is it 18:00 CET yet? Are we there yet? Are we? Thinking about getting a pair too? They look like a darn good option, but I can't help but worry about what it'll cost to get 'em across the border - I'm still PO'd over the $80 UPS tried to charge me for that Shanling M2S I ordered My plan was waiting for you to purchase a couple pairs - pay the hideous shipping & customs brokerage - then sell the extra pair at a loss to me. Obviously I need to work up a better pitch for my plan before presenting it to you...oh...wait...

Been there, had that in my room - with 28 foot bass horns. Putting PA speaker tech in your front room is great for about 30 seconds of maximum impact. Horn speakers in the mid-field are not my chosen cup of audio playback poison. Had to work in a studio that used that WE driver setup. Even 20 feet away it was not pleasant. Or accurate. I have friends (mostly deaf or dead now) that loved that rip-your-face-off dynamics of monster horn systems fed by the oxymoron dynamics of vinyl. You're right Rabbit, frequency response isn’t the only factor - when it's stupid loud, who cares. Compression driver throat distortion increases the discomfort and hearing damage. For me, vintage horn designs are not nearly as musical or timeless as vintage tubes. If this is the best speaker system that Han has heard, needs to get out more.

Interesting. A company famed for electrostatic speakers, offers a planar magnetic headphone with an OPPOulent design. Appears to have special ergonomic ear cushions - for those that have had their lobes surgically removed. Even before release, they're being discounted. 100 pounds cheaper at: www.audiosanctuary.co.uk/quad-era-1-headphones.html

Thanks for performing this vital consumer service, Frans. Just needs a big sign at the top that reads: STAY AWAY! ;-)
Mitchell & Johnson JP1 DJ: Horrible FR, worse pricing and terrible implementation for the target market. Calling it a scam.

I live just outside the middle of nowhere and couldn't be bothered to take the test because the NYtimes site is filled with adware/spyware scripts. It's the sweet sounds of silence for me. ;-)

I read that as "... modify to be one of the best <$1500 headphones." - It's my cheapskate imagination. ;-)

Thanks for the update, Frans!
That graph looks really, really good. Best $150 headphone?
In my experience as full-time feline staffer, cats don't like to stay in the bag very long. Cats, like information, just want to be free. And well-fed. And pampered.

It was interesting to hear his choice of headphones to travel with ... Bose QC35 and Beats. To be fair to Tyll, he wanted the noise-cancelling Bose so he didn't go too nutz when driving that brutally noisy Gruman FedEx delivery truck. Selected the Beats to be hip for a stopover in a downtown Manhattan RV park. He did mention: What he doesn't state is what tube amp(s) he'll be solar-powering. Sounds like the G1217 Solstice would be a perfect match. Sure, might have to use some precious storage space for the tube collection - but living on the road with SS amps only is...tedious and boring. And, think of vintage gems he might find on the road - KR 6P5s, Raytheon 2C50s, TS RP 12SN7s for $20 from an ancient roadside electronics shop on Route 66. Road Tube Trip. A new, better sounding Youtube series.

Will be a few weeks ... Turns out it wasn't public info yet. They just forgot to notify me about this. Now you're in a tight head clamp of trouble with the mass of drops.

fresh out of the box and after 5hrs of blasting very loud bassy music as burn in. HD681-EVO More info... on that page also linkies to other burn-in research Aha! Burning in your headphones makes them lose their young fresh pink response and turn green, probably with envy, once the newness wears off. Lesson here is: If you want to keep your new shiny phones in the pink, never play loud bassy music through them.

I have never experienced this myself. That's because you don't allow yourself long periods of idleness. Maybe hang out with some slacker musicians for a few months to learn the secrets of doing nothing productive.

Frans tuned the Polaris using a rare and exotic JFET voltage gain stage to mimic the sound of a good tube. Although it doesn't permit JFET swapping... yet. ;-)
Polaris uses the same 'vintage' solid stage output stage as the Ember and Solstice. Do you have to choose only one between both amps?
TS = Tung-Sol. Tung-Sol 3 mica 6CG7.
TS RP = Tung-Sol Round Plate used to differentiate the TS flat plates 6SN7 from the TS RPs. The TS RP is one of my fav 6SN7/12SN7 tubes - vivid, dynamic presentation. Goes great with the Mimby in my rig.

That or the TS 3 Mica 666CG7 - made specifically for the devil's music. Like Jazz, Rock and all Classical music before it got old and godly.
