So add a line-out to the portable/desktop version ? The problem would be that the line-out would go through the volume control of the amp. Would be a question of adding 2 resistors and 2 line-out RCA's in that case. Yes, something like that. Any chance to avoid the volume control?

That would require a complete redesign and make it much more complicated. But that could make the filter defeatable with the flip of a switch. Will think about the idea and see if it feasable. Won't be a portable version in that case, only a desktop version would be feasable and would be using an SMPS brick like the G1217 amps.

Hi Frans, thanks for your answer, please don't waste your time on this, it was just an idea that perhaps may appeal others in the long term. The reason why I asked is that I needed one more Kameleon inline filter for home use and at first thought it sounded like a good idea, but I will buy it from tupisac. I would like to build my own portable Kameleon-2 (or Kameleon-3 if I keep waiting ;-) ) just as a fun project...but I never get time to do it with my two sons around. They require too much attention given their ages :-P
BTW, would it be possible to add just a little more bass/subbass (fun!) to the HD650 filter module by changing some of the components? I don't want much more, but I could use a bit more if it does not rattle the drivers.

You can change the amount of bass quite easily. Simply replace C5x with a smaller value. 100nF will give a tad more bass, 47nF will give a lot more bass.

For those that have built the portable Kameleon 2 amplifier there is a small (easy to do) modification for the battery management section. This has no influence on the audio quality. When batteries are brand new or getting older after many many hours of usage the internal resistance of the battery is a bit higher than under optimal conditions. This causes weird behaviour on start-up. Mostly when batteries are in need of recharging. During the development a variable power supply was used and this one, of course, did not show this poor behaviour. It only happens with real batteries. The modification consists of adding a small electrolytic capacitor (10uF) with a voltage rating of 16V or higher. HOW to do this is decribed in the latest manual on the last page, but the modification guide can also be downloaded HERE. Do note that this applies to the portable version only so NOT the desktop version nor the inline-Kameleon as these do not run on batteries and thus do not have that circuit. The same applies to the early (original) portable Kameleon amplifiers (the ones without the volume control). But as this one has the parts mounted differently another instruction is needed. The modification guide for the original Kameleon can be found HERE

New boards are on order. It has the battery management modification on it and removed the 'switch amp off when charging' option. So slightly fewer parts. Added another hole for desktop amp duties and changed the front LED's to be either 2 LEDs (as is currently) but also a single bi-colour LED can be used.
No changes to anything else ... well .. the board now comes in piano black, just like the filter modules.

Fascinating! I can't seem to find the HD580's over on the measurements section at diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/ so am wondering if they're the same as the 600's or 58x Jubilee? I also note this on the Kameleon-2 module page: Sennheiser HD580 / HD600 (extends subbass, removes slight upper mids peak) * Also, I've always been a little disappointed with the lack of low bass from my 580's although just love the overall airiness and tonal qualities of everything else. Happy to fire up the soldering iron and warm those SMD components up, but: prices of bare (not populated) PCB’s & boards in stock (Jan 2018): Kameleon in-line board (black) = € 9.10 sold out, no longer available Does this mean it's all over, and only the commercial version is available? Also, is this suitable to go in-line before my Bravo v2? Many thanks Lea

There is a new Kameleon 2 amplifier board available (limited quantity). I named it v 2.1 as it is the same amplifier except the board has the modification already on it and I removed the 'turn the amp off when charging' option.
The board is now glossy black (like G1217 boards) and is even 2 Euros cheaper now (different supplier) so a board = € 7.10 and a filter board (also black) is now € 1.70.
I have looked into offering a small quantity of in-line PCB's but these would become too expensive in small quantities.

Hi Frans, if you ever decide to go for those inline boards, please count one for me! I still have to get started with the Amp, but it has been crazy at work

Hi Frans, I have been rather quiet lately in the forum. Any news about those boards? :-)

The guy who wanted to make the boards had 10 of them made but alas the manufacturer had not done their job well and the boards came out mirrored. He had the opportunity to have 10 boards made but this time properly but had to pay shipping once more.
I guess he cut his losses and left it this way. The only way would be if I have some boards made again but due to the small amounts and the boards being slightly larger than 100mm makes them costly.

Hi Frans, I just need a bit of help from you regarding my Kameleon 2. I was using it for the first time for quite a while, probably about 6 months. At the end of my listen I thought I would switch it off and leave it plugged in to charge the batteries. This is my problem: It seems that the unit is not charging the batteries as the yellow charging light on the rear does not come on when plugged in but switched off. If I try to run it from batteries the front light comes on immediately followed by the red light. When plugged in and switched on everything works OK. Do you think the batteries need relplacing?
How can I test them?
How long is the expected battery life of the Vapex 280 mah?
Or do you think the charging circuit could be faulty? Any help appreciated Regards Chris
