I took the felt off mine since I felt that it was slightly better in the treble that way. I'm glad the measurements show it!!!
I also listened with no felt or paper and it is quite a grating sound that way. Very tiring for long listening sessions. Well, at least they are taking notice Frans although I'm really surprised that they didn't close the vents since for me, that made quite a difference in the middle and made it more cohesive from top to bottom.

Hi Frans,
I can't tell from your graph which is velour and which is pleather and which you recommend.

Thanks Frans. I agree, based on the plots the velour seem a bit bass shy. Other than that, I didn't find anything that sounded "off" with them. I'll order a pair of the pleather to try.
Other than bass, any issues with the HM5 velour or pleather? Is the "drop out" at 7k with the Pleather noticeable?

The sharp dip may not be there in reality. If it is most likely you won't notice.
The pads were pressed on the headphone, not mounted as it should because they are a little to small to fit nicely. Didn't want to over stretch the pads.
Maybe there could be a bit more bass when properly mounted.
If you like the sound with the HM5 velours and you don't have too little bass compared to the Superlux velourspads then it seems there is no reason not to use these pads.

So the felt on the production models has a significant effect above 6kHz. At the moment mine have 4 out of the 6 holes sealed and 1 ply of paper towel. Should i remove the felt and add 2 plies of paper? I'm really happy with the sound, but i could try, it's just that i'm not sure i would notice the difference - also, putting the pads back on is not something i need in my life Btw, does it matter which of the 6 holes are sealed? out of the 3 holes on each side, does it matter if you seal 1 and 2, leaving the third open or sealing 1 and 3, leaving the middle one open?

Once the pads have been on there it is much easier putting them back on. Just mount the 'flaps' over the sides and then use your fingernail to tuck it in working around the headphone.
To me its worth removing the felt but the difference is not really big...
I don't think it matters which of the 3 holes you close.

Jumped on the bandwagon on these headphones as well.Ordered two(W&B) since they're so cheap and to get "more" for the 20 euro's shippingcost to Norway.
Will be interesting to try out such cheap headphones. Also looking to order me a T50RP MK3 very soon.
Now what high-end toiletpaper should I use...super fluffy or cheap two ply kind....;-)

Probably best to avoid the second hand stuff so they do these in white as well?

The white makes me think of the starship troopers in Star Wars.

Starship troopers??? Now that was a good film but I think you might mean stormtroopers? But yes that was my immediate thought too. I hope it's not the type of white plastic that goes nicotine yellow with age!
