The Kameleon has a crossfeed filter module BUT it is 'fixed' so you can't play with settings you like.
What I found using X-feed is that on some recordings it helps in getting a more 'physically relaxing' sound. to me it doesn't create 'speaker alike' imaging as if in front of you.
X-feed makes the stereo image less wide... not wider or will give you 'out of head' experiences.
I built my own variable X-feed years ago. In the end I used it on one setting (a very mild setting) for a while. BUT since it doesn't work for all recordings it is important to be able to switch it off.
Re-adjusting the settings per album/recording seems undo-able and not really practical. Don't expect too much of it. Play with software X-feed first. Software Xfeed may not have the exact same effect as analog X-feed (Phonitor)

The Ifi circuit is quite strange in that it throws some sounds further out and brings others in slightly!!
Extreme left/right is brought in, but some middle right or left sounds seem to go out. It is quite different in the way that it works.
I'd still like to be able to control it more though.

I think the ifi circuit (which is analog as well) is more like the old Philips 'spatial' functionality but perhaps with a twist where mono signals are mixed in extra. A bit like the 'wide stereo' setting on some TV's where sounds appear to come from the left and right of the TV but the sound itself sounds a bit weird when playing music.

Yes, it does 'widen' the perceived sound. Except for extreme left and right. It's a strange effect. It's not exactly what I recognise as crossfeed but it does introduce 'air' into many recordings. Unfortunately, it also introduces a fraction more treble as well in most cases, so there is a tonal shift which is nasty on say, an AKG but not so bad on the hd650.
I think you may well be right.... a little bit of mono is added or perhaps the amount of added mono is varied depending on extreme left and right?
I'm not sure if I prefer it or not.
I also wonder whether they added that bass boost to compensate for the treble boost when the circuit is switched on. Gives more of a 'u' shape which many headphones 'seem' to sound better with although in reality, they're no better!!

I don't know what their crossfeed on that would be, but the one on their little amps isn't a 'normal' kind of crossfeed. It has a wide ing aspect on some signals and a 'pulling in' effect on other sounds. I have no idea how it does this.
It seems to depend on how extreme the left/right sounds are. In many cases it does work but not always. That is the difficulty with crossfeed, I think. You need just a little more control over it.
I bet that amp sounds bloody good........

Looks like a market for ‘vintage gear’ is now a new thing. Big prices for headphones now and big prices for old gear as well.
Same goes for old microphones actually. They make claims like, ‘capture the old BBC days of the 60’s’. XXX mic for ‘ridiculous price’ will bring you that sound. Not always the case but the prices asked for can be ridiculous.

well i thought i would drag this old thread up. i have a Phonitor SE as of yesterday. (could not justify the outlay on the full sized units) mine is an ex-demo unit and i landed it for half the new retail price, so not a bad deal. have to say its a lovely sounding amp. no pre funtion and only single ended, but plenty of power on low gain for my range of cans. it does have the 768 dac, but not planning on using that.
recently bought a Cayin iha6 which has loads of "bells and whistles" but just did not suit my ears. its now on ebay and soon to be followed by my old Violectric v200. keeping the Eufonika, Ember and now the SPL . think thats me done on amps and dac now FINALLY ;-)

Have you played around with the crossfeed (the main reason to buy one, aside from the looks) ?
Unlimited power in high impedance headphones.

Unlimited power in high impedance headphones. briefly yes. trying to get used to it with matrix off first. so will play again in a few days time. mine is the stripped down version with just 2 settings to play with and no lovely vu meters to gaze at.

yeah thats the one. it quickly became my "king" of headphone amps. sadly the reign lasted just a week, as it died on me last night.
