Final version 1.2.7 of Foobar has been released DL here: www.foobar2000.org/getfile/d6e9f558b43b2df4d3738fbec85ba2a7/foobar2000_v1.2.7.exeChangelog: - Now using latest & greatest libFLAC 1.3.0. - Fixed WAV tag writer potentially creating files of odd byte count (non-standard-compliant). - Improved handling of various malformed AIFF file cases. - Made WavPack files with malformed channel mask info play (final). - New “Downmix channels to stereo” DSP replacing old “Downmix 5.1 to stereo”; now capable of downmixing various channel configurations (final). New FLAC decoder is very slightly faster at decoding on my PC. FLAC 1.3.0 is mostly about bug fixing than anything else. BTW, no reason whatosover to reencode previous files, they will perform exactly the same (and of course, sound the same). Intereseting the last item, the new downmixer, for the odd 4.0 or 4.1 files like some DVD-A releases of Quadraphonic albums like 2006 DVD-A of Dark Side of the Moon.

That was what I was trying to tell you in the previous forum. Just can't play 4.1 or 4.0. Anyway, I had that solved long ago by downloading the plugin foo_channel_mixer. Now with that inclusion, I guess I can take that out now after upgrading the Foobar. Yippee!

Does foobar2000 sound better than other players? No. Most of “sound quality differences” people “hear” are placebo effect (at least with real music), as actual differences in produced sound data are below their noise floor (1 or 2 last bits in 16bit samples). foobar2000 has sound processing features such as software resampling or 24bit output on new high-end soundcards, but most of the other mainstream players are capable of doing the same by now. That tickled me having seen claims to the contrary recently!! Obviously, Foobar don't use their ears either?

New Foobar version 1.2.9 available: www.foobar2000.org/getfile/d56f04473017fecdb66ab318e0624088/foobar2000_v1.2.9.exe- Cosmetic fixes: ReplayGain scanner context menu tweaks - “Remove ReplayGain Info” grayed out when there's nothing to remove. Made batch picture attach related commands appear in more cases where they didn't appear in previous versions. - Fixed incompatibility with vgmstream input plug-in - Files with .afc extension that are not recognized by standard decoders can now be handled by third party decoders. Workaround for buggy ID3v2 readers (Windows Explorer) - Front Cover is now always stored first. There will probably be another release soon that will include updating libraries to the new 2.0 version of FFMpeg so, unless one is affected by any of the fixes mentioned in the above changelog, nothing lost by skipping this one and waiting for the next.

New version of Foobar's SACD plugin and Proxy available: Ver. 0.6.5 of the SACD plugin adds: "Store Tags With ISO" option added. Ver. 0.6.5 of the Proxy adds: "Optional delay when switching between DSD and PCM modes." which is aimed at reducing clicks and pops when changing from PCM to DSD or vice versa. The Proxy (ASIOProxyInstall-0.6.5.exe) is included inside the plugin's zip file but has to be extracted and installed separately. Download here: sourceforge.net/projects/sacddecoder/files/latest/download?source=filesThere should be soon a new Foobar version available includind the latest FFMpeg V 2.0 libraries and a few changes that will speed up opening and closing the app considerably.

Hey Javier, just downloaded bunpei DSD256 file you posted. But foobar with 0.6.4 SACD plugin just pops "Unable to open item for playback (Unsupported format or corrupted file)". You said the file needs some tweaks to play, whoud you kindly gime some directions? Don´t have a DSD DAC, but instead use PCM 352.8khz SACD plugin output, resampled through SoX plugin to 192khz DAC. SoX sound is way better, than SACD plugin direct to 192Khz. This works with any DSD64 and DSD128 thay I have. Oddly enought, on true DSD recording files, this DSD->PCM192 conversions, sounds better than native PCM192 files. SoX plugin really rocks! Anyway, thanks for all your informations.

Welcome to our forum Microtone. The reason Bunpei's original file didn't play was that it was 12 byte short, you need to add those bytes by appending them at the end. The easiest way to do it is: 1) create a text file containing exactly 12 blank spaces (use the space bar) making sure you don't use the "Enter" key at the end. save it using any name you want, for example 1.txt 2)open a command line window and at the command prompt type: copy /b aaaaaa bbbbb cccccccc where "aaaaa" is the name of the broken DSD file, "bbbbbb" is name of the text file created in the previous step and "cccccc" is the name of the target DSD file (for example workingDSD256.DFF). This will create a new corrected file with the 12 bytes appended at the end. If you are interested in native DSD and are into DIY keep an eye on this area, I'll be posting soon something you may find interesting.

Now the DSD256 file works!!! Thanks a Lot!!! Probably the best "real space" and "pin point location" heard thru my EMU 1616m and ADAM a5x. The dynamics is suberb also!! The Spectrum of the converted PCM352.8 has a noise floor of below -103db until aprox. 110khz!! Upwards this point, the S-D noise shaping appears. I think that DSD256 with lossless compression, maybe is THE sweet spot of HD music. Now lets wait for a CHEAP and good native DSD256 DAC (maybe ESS9018-2 included)... Maybe this one: www.audiostream.com/content/resonessence-labs-herus

Glad you got it to work.
The problem with DSD as it is available now is you can get DFF with DST compression but no tagging or you can get the latter in DSF but then no lossless compression.
Cheap and 9018 are words that don't usually come together, at least if good design and build quality are involved. There are some Chinese offerings available at Ebay but I seriously doubt they reach anywhere near the chip's spec'ced performance. When they become available the new 9016 and 9010 would be better choices for low cost.

Foobar2000 v1.3 beta 1 has been released, main goal is speed when dealing with large libraries.
Changelog:
- Generic performance optimizations, mainly affecting very large playlists and libraries. - Playlist & Media Library search dialogs no longer block UI when performing lookups. - Converter: added an option to transfer ReplayGain information to the destination files. - Spurious/oversized metadata such as whole EAC logs entries are now dropped from foobar2000's cache, for better search performance and lower resource usage. - Updated FFmpeg to 2.0.1. - Corrected gapless playback of HE-AAC files made with iTunes. - Improved smooth playlist scrolling.
PS. Remember it is a beta a can have a few rough edges, some have already been reported at HA so I guess beta 2 will be comming out soonish, that is the reason of no links in this post.

It has taken quite a while but Foobar 1.3 final is now officialy available along with a new 1.3.1 beta which just adds replay gain for MP4/AAC files so not too interesting IMO. gonna read over your two dummy docs Javier, thanks .
I know there are a LOT of components that can be added to foobar, and I used to have it set up a few years back (foobar2000) but have since built a new rig and haven't done anything to foobar yet. hopefully reading through your write-ups I can get it sorted to be a audiophile as it can be. thanks.
