A small review from the vikings
Here's my review of the Starlight - I'll put it in English so that Frans/Solderdude can enjoy it too and get something back for sending it on a tour in our humble Danish community.
Overall, I'm super impressed with the little amp. It packs a super powerful punch and is generally very lively.
SETUP:
Phones: Denon D7000,
DAC: Aune X1.
Source: Mac with Spotify @ high quality (also some FLACs but I generally can't really hear the difference).
The bass is much more alive than the Aune amp and also more than the Lake People G100 that I had the good fortune to borrow at the same time. Generally, music just feels really engaging. I'm quite surprised because people write that the low-impedance D7000s shouldn't work too well with tube amps and I also found that they sounded quite poor with the Aune T1. Whatever the difference I really enjoyed the amp.
To me the amp is just a lot of "fun" in the same way as the Denons are compared to many other phones: The powerful bass and come-alive music just makes you want to listen to fun stuff and dance. It's perhaps not super precise in giving out all details but it adds its very own character to the music which was just really to my liking. A very warm and engaging sound.
One thing that perhaps bugged me a bit was that given the low impedance of the Denons, I had it at quite low volume but Spotify at quite low software volume. So sometimes when I had an SMS tick in I would be murdered by loud volumes and throw the phones off. The solution was to keep the phone at the other end of the desk from the amp.
Overall, a really nice amp that I would very much like to own! Thanks a bunch for sending it on tour!
I was unfortunately only at the office at day time so I don't have any awesome dark-room pictures with the glowing tube... but here are a few just for the vibe
