Ok, thanks Frans. Had trouble with Dropbox all day!!
It looks much better than the other ones I tried tbh.

it's really elegant, minimalistic and has a great color scheme to me. The fact that it isn't all icons but has descriptions is the reason I use it.

Frans, I still can't get at it. that site sends me off to adverts and my virus software if going berserk. I tried clicking the link and just get an advert and right clicking just saves the web page.
I lost my copy when I changed computer.

Got it, thanks Frans. I'd been trying other ones and then couldn't find the old one on my old computer!! I agree. The simplicity and the ease of reading it makes it much better than the others with the icons tbh. All up and running again.

Does anyone know whether turning the EQ down to 0 on all frequencies might reduce the chances of clipping at high levels or whether it introduces more distortion because of the use of the equaliser?

Turning down the EQ lowers the resolution to 15 bits (for redbook) It reduces the possibility of having 'intersample overs' because of digital filtering that could potentially reach clipping levels.
I have my X3 setup with a flat equalizer (so effectively a 6dB lower output level)

Thanks Frans. So you're using the custom EQ but everything set at zero. Not as I was saying by turning the EQ right down to the bottom level making the volume even lower? I'll try it out. It was just something that someone was suggesting on HF so I thought I'd give it a go. I have to say that I don't hear any differences though.

When the EQ is switched 'on' but all sliders are in 'neutral' position the overall level is lowered 6dB to accomodate for a +6dB boost of frequencies without clipping the DAC chip. 0dB in a file is 0dB in the DAC chip... so bit perfect in an amplitude sense of the word. Volume control in the X3 is done 'analog' in a chip following after the DAC chip. These volume/tone control IC's usually introduce a slightly higher distortion.
I don't hear differences either but use it to lower the line-out level a bit when connecting to higher gain amplifiers. There is no other way to alter the line-out level.

3.4 is now out. Not sure what the differences are. (If any) Some are saying it sounds a bit leaner than 3.34 so the X3 is slightly more analytical. If it is, it must be by a tiny amount, but then I can barely remember what it sounded like before I updated it!!!

Thanks. Funnily enough I checked for new FW last week ... The guy making the lovely orange theme has already made his version with 3.4 FW

Thanks Frans. I don't care for the Fiio look either. The Orange theme is much better.
