What a pain to reformat a card that size.
If it goes to 64gb then it probably has to be a card thing.
I got caught out with some cheap cards that turned out to have a fraction of their stated memory. Files copied or at least appeared to, but later checking showed the to be empty folders.
I presume you formatted in the X3? They do advise to do that.

I did format the card in the X3. It's a SandDisk 128GB card bought from Amazon so I assume it's legit. I just plugged it into the PC and it asked me if I wanted to scan and fix it - it looks like it might have a problem.

To be honest, I feel safer with 64gb cards. Or even 32 so they are ok with my other players. I have one 64 in the X1 and another 64 in the X3. Both are full so another card is on the way soon. Plus all my 32 Gb cards for the Sandisk players that I have.
It's a lot to reformat and fill again with 128. I also get the feeling that the big ones can be a bit dodgy from people on HF.
I haven't had anything odd yet with 3.3. I'm waiting for a lock up but so far, nothing at all. I'm really chuffed with it.

I let it 'fix' a few but they reported as OK. Had a look online and saw reports of it but no fix. I just ignore the message now with no problems. Syd

Well, I thought I'd re-format the card and start again. However, I can't format the card. I can't add files or delete files. Apparently the card is write protected - I've no idea how this happened. I've emailed SanDisk and asked for help as some of the online advice looks a bit advanced for me. I'll report back here when/if I get an answer.

Hi Dicky I'm sure I'm asking the obvious but have you checked the little slider at the side of the card? I have at least one that is very easily set 'on' when being inserted into the slot. Syd

Hi Syd, it's a micro SD card so it doesn't have a slider - that's why I'm so confused about how it could be write protected. Even the X3 can't format it - it thinks it has but when I update the library, all the files are still there! (My card reader has a uSD slot so I'm not even using an SD card adapter.)
Some online fixes involve editing the registry - so I'll have to look at that tonight.
Maybe the card is broken - although it plays in the X3. Hopefully SanDisk will get back to me in the next couple of days.

Well, it seems the card is faulty and SanDisk have agreed to replace it. There are freeware and DOS utilities that allow you to unlock these cards (diskpart, RMPrepUSB etc) but these didn't work in this case.

That's a shame. So you'll have to reload everything back on. They can be touchy.
I thought that there was something odd going on!! Not had a single problem with mine so far. I have been waiting for one as well. You know, how people mention freeze ups etc ..... I kind of expected one to happen, but not a peep.
Glad it's sorted for you.

I have had quite a few 'freezes' with the early firmware (and other weird problems) but so far none with FW 3.3. My card is 32GB though.

64gb cards seem to be very safe too. I haven't tried a 128 yet. It's cheaper to buy two 64's, or maybe even four 32's.
At least 32gb cards are able to be used in the Sandisk daps as well.
So far, (touch wood) not a single blip.
Battery life's not too bad either. Even with hi res files.

I really like it with the Fiio Mont Blanc. Very nice, warm and powerful sound. does adding an amp really make a lot of difference, Ian. if so have you compared the X1 using the same amp?

Yes, Simon. The output via line out is a little cleaner sounding. Perhaps slightly less warm and Frans confirmed what I suspected I heard but didn't want to say in case people thought I was a nutter. Bass goes a bit deeper. You don't notice until the bass is actually there.
I use them both ways. Straight from headphone out on K551 which is a super headphone and through line out with anything that really needs a boost. I often sit in my front room with a portable if I can't be bothered to hook up the Ember or Polaris.
X1 behaves in a very similar way.

It's no problem to reload everything back on - I'll drag and drop and leave it to it. I like the 128GB card because I don't like swapping cards - butterfingers!
