AFAIK it is not available on the European market yet. Seems planned for March.

I just installed the latest firmware (out since May 2014) on the X3 and the interface has become more graphic. had experienced some problems with the firmware in the past (in certain circumstances) and this seems to be corrected now. Acc. to FiiO: 1.All new UI supporting new features, with orange, yellow, purple, blue, green and black color themes (I use the black).2.Support for DSD playback (supports DSF and DFF files in DSD64 (2.8MHz) format. Does not support DSD128 (5.6MHz) format or ISO files.) (don't have any DSD files)3.Increased responsiveness to track changes. (confirmed)4.Increased speed of media library update, added song no. progress display. 5.Added support for HE-AAC format. (don't care, don't have them)7.Added support for cue sheets for mp3 tracks. (don't use them)8.Added large charging indicator on LCD screen when charging with power off; screen shuts off after the pre-set screen timeout. 9.Lifted restriction on playback of tracks of sample rate under 32kHz. (don't have any)10.Added display of number of songs on TF card and internal storage in “About X3”. (never looked there) Bug fixes and improvements: 1.Optimized mp3, wma, ogg vorbis and flac decoding quality (fixed noise artifacts in left channel of ogg vorbis tracks and low level noise in mp3 tracks) 2.Fixed issue where flac tracks split by CUE files were not split at the correct track positions. 3.Reduced gaps in gapless playback (zero gap in tracks of the same sample rate) (not applicable to "shuffle" or "loop single" playback modes or tracks split by cue sheets) 4.Improved support for ID3 tags and album art (lifted restriction on size of album art) 5.Improved support for different CUE sheet formats (added support for UTF-8 and Unicode files) 6.Added support for 32bit, 64bit and floating point music tracks. 7.Increased responsiveness to fast forward and rewind operations. 8.Added large charging indicator on LCD screen when charging with power off; screen shuts off after the pre-set screen timeout. 9.Various bug fixes. (I hope they got them all)

A definite and intuitive improvement. I can't even remember the old interface!

Funny they mention DSD playback support... unless they mean that it converts DSD to PCM on the fly because the WM8740 chip it uses doesn't support native DSD. It wasn't until its succesors, the WM8741 and WM8742, were released that Wolfson started supporting native DSD.

It probably just means it can play back DSD format signals (only DSD64 alas)
The 192kHz has been reported to be downsampled to 96kHz also even though the DAC is capable of handling 192kHz. Maybe they 'fixed' that in the new firmware as well ... don't know.
The new firmware solved a bug that prompted me to look for FW updates. On an album it refused to automatically skip to the next song when in 'album selection' mode AND in 'normal' mode and it would hang (on some somgs) and need a reset. It did go to the next song when in 'random mode'.
Also the time between the next song was a bit long and there was no real gapless playing (annoying on live albums). This has been cured as well... gapless works well and skipping to the next song is instant.

Frans, do you know the limits of the card reading on the x3. Ie, how many files maximum can it read and at what depth for the folders?
I'm wondering whether I might be asking too much of my X1.

I only have 32GB cards but it can take up to 128GB.
In general the root has a limited amount of files it can handle. Don't know if the X3 has a limit, can't reach it with 32GB and all albums (folders) are in the root. I only have folders that go 2 layers deep and has no problems with it.
It reads the tags of all the songs. I think proper tagging is important for these players.
Too many songs in the root may be a problem though. If a max amount of folders is reached you can always create a few folders in the root in which album folders can be tucked away.
The X1 and X5 firmware may also be a problem. The latest X3 firmware has solved a problem I encountered. Still the player 'froze' one time already.
Also I am not particularly fond of the symbols used and liked the descriptions in the old menu better. I understand the symbols though as they don't need to translate text for it. The Chinese usually suck at translations.

Thanks Frans. The reason I'm asking is that the X1 had a problem with my 128Gb cards. I suspect it's because they're non branded cheapos so no big deal. I first loaded thousands of songs on but the X1 only read the first 150 or so and stopped. Then I tried to access some folders and it said that there was no music in there. Tried a few times so I wondered whether I was filing them too deep or whether if you go over a certain amount of files, then it just can't read them.
The end of it was that I tried one more time this morning. Put the card back in to get it to re read and it locked so I had to reset it.
I suspect it's the cards, not the device. 64Gb card is a well known branded one and works perfectly. However, I'm loathe to buy a 128 if they are prone to play up. Too expensive if you buy a branded one. Roughly £70 ish which is virTually the price of the player, when 64s can be had for around £25.
It is a really nice sounding player though. I like it a lot. I think I'm going to sell my IPod Classic now, while its pretty new. Nothing wrong with the Classic but I prefer the ease of use of the Fiio with its cards. Actually, I have two Classics and some Nanos, but I think it's time for them to go now. I've been weaned away!!

They show up on your pc as having the correct capacity and will even load up that amount of data, but when you try to play it will only play a small amount and then corrupt the rest. Most have a lot less than half of there stated capacity. Try this well-known little program to test the "Real" capacity. H2testwFamous and interesting review on Amazon - see paragraphs 5 & 6

Aha. Ok, thanks Jeff. I suspected as much tbh. That'll teach me. It does show the correct capacity and did load up overnight. When I checked, the folders were there but no music was inside. So very like, they are fakes. In fact, they're only loading about 200 files before packing up. My 64gb card has more like 6000 in low res. I want a big 'un for proper high res stuff so will have to wait until Christmas!!!! (Or sell some gear)

The FiiO X3 reaches about 150mW into 50 Ohm which means 108dB should be possible with the T50RP. For me it isn't an option as the X3 only has bass and treble tone control and I only like the T50RP when filtered which isn't possible. i think i read somewhere that the latest firmware has added an equiliser

It seems the latest 3.30 FW has the equaliser again. Didn't try it yet. I am not keen on FW equalisers as they often change a lot more besides the frequency bands (depends on how well the algorithms are designed) The X1 has a 7 band equaliser, the X5 a 10 band. Here you can find a repository for all the different FW versions (X1, X3, X5) www.fiio.me/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=39932All the beta versions can be found on head-fi where the versions are posted and comments/wishes can be discussed.
