I haven't directly compared Simon. All I remember is the 'eb' had a solid bass while the Orange one seems more even handed with a better rendition of mids. If I'm honest, it's a bit like swings and roundabouts.
I like both. I'll put the eb in and check, but we're talking fairly small things tbh imo.
I wouldn't go looking for a globe. They tend to be quite expensive because of demand. I didn't pay for mine and was very lucky.

I have compared now. I brought the Ember with me and put the eb in. In comparison to my 'globe' tube, it's kind of similar to putting a 'loudness' switch on. Slightly more bite up top and a harder hitting bass.
This is the same tube we 'share' from Eric, Simon. Those tubes are good and would really suit a headphone that needs a little livening up.

my first tube / ebay purchases arrived today. i needn't have worried about the first pair (6n2p-eb), turns out they are from Mike from RG ! so very happy with them.
as for the one which arrived from elsewhere, it was stated as NOS, but the pins are discoloured. surely this is not right?

It may not be a pull after all. Just clean the pins with some brasso or other silverware cleaner.
You can also just pop 'em in. Any 'dirt' or corrosion will most likely 'scrape' off on insertion.

After you posted this I couldn't stop thinking about it. I have a 1984 Voskhod 6N2P and I wasn't impressed with it but I would like to try a early production. I made an offer to your seller on eBay and we'll see how he responds. I probably offered more than it is worth but I like trying out these older Russkie tubes. I'm still contemplating a 6N30P-DR for a little over 100 USD. Jeremy said that Sovtek makes a 6N30P that is just as good for around 40 USD so that could be my backup plan.

Anybody tried E80CC TUNGSRAM ?
Sound is more fluid and detailed than the best Siemens or Telzfunken with a great "in the face soundstage", very balanced sound, slightly bassy.
It's one of the best tube you can find at this time for the Ember, it's clearly a level above any other "standards" tubes like 12AU7, 12AT7, 6DJ8, etc..
try it you won't regret it !

I'll let you know. I haven't heard back from him yet. He'll probably just let the offer die after 48 hours....but I did offer $25 + 12 shipping which is probably more than its worth to me.
On a side note, now that all the Barclays Premier League games are shown in the US I decided to choose a team to follow and I chose Liverpool. I spent the first 11 years of my life in England and I was a fan of Albert Quixall when he was with Sheffield Wednesday....a long time ago.
EDIT: He took the bid on the tube....now it seems like I offered too much. What the heck, maybe I'll like it. On the other hand, Oldson, if I don't like it I can make you a deal.

. I spent the first 11 years of my life in England and I was a fan of Albert Quixall when he was with Sheffield Wednesday....a long time ago. That brings back memories for me - I've lived in Sheffield for most of my life and remember Quixall. My memory of him is that he seemed about 2 moves ahead of his Wednesday team mates so Man U stepped in and tried to fit him into their team with some small success I seem to recall. Sheesh, that's some time ago, standing on The Kop with about 25 or 30 thousand others watching 20 outfield players kicking a heavy soggy leather ball around on a miserable Saturday afternoon, followed by a bite to eat in the below ground restaurant opposite the Town Hall side door (forget the name), then a pint or several of Stones Best and then a night in the Locarno before catching the far too early last bus home - those were the days . Makes me feel old!! . Dave.
