Negatives - pleather pads. Long lead. Quite lightweight on head. (For me a plus) it is pretty flat and so doesn't make all recordings sound 'pretty'. Can be warm on the ears.
Positives - flat. (!!), pretty comfortable. Fairly good seal. Easy to drive.
The open one is very good, but the pads are apparently a bit flimsy. The one I tried in the shop had all of the surface of the pads missing. Worn away. Sounded amazing though.
I used the Roland this afternoon while cutting the lawn. I wrap the lead around my body and use my belt to hold it.
If you go with DT250, an amp is probably more necessary but it is a very good headphone.

The bass on the AKG rolls away quite early, so not much deep bass with them. I also think they are sucked away in the lower treble which some find quite noticeable. Not as even as the Beyer or the Roland.

The AKG K271 (and mkII) aren't particularly good headphones and would even prefer the DT660 over it.

Oh, that's a great pity, Simon. I tend to use the Roland's more with daps and no amp. If I use an amp, Yhe. The dt250 is a great headphone.
Another one I like is the Senn hd598 and its smaller version. Both open though. The 598 sounds terrific straight of my Fuze. It's very sensitive as well. Mobile, I tend to use the Momentum over ears. Warm and lush, but nice on the move. I've changed all of the leads to short ones though, so they are easy to use mobile. I have some posh little cloth covered wire on them with gold plugs. Just 1.2 metres.
Funny thing with the hd598. I used to find it way to edgy, but nowadays, I'm fine with it. Perhaps I've acclimatised to it. It has a real clarity that is quite unusual for a Senn. Just remembered, the other is a 558 which is slightly warmer.
Have you considered the hd25? It's got a bit of a peak in the treble but easy to drive for portable gear. Clamps down a bit strong though.
No shops in Reading stock studio gear? The Roland's aren't seen so much as high Fi gear.

Frans stated that the fiio x5 would drive the dt's without an amp, so i imagine this combo would fit the bill. i dont have the x5 yet. i am hoping that santa brings me one!

The X5 looks superb and yes, it would drive the Beyers nicely. I'm picking up an X1 tomorrow morning. Not as powerful as the X3 or 5 but looks like it's a really good value dap to me. I think they're going out on sale now in the UK at just £99 which is a bargain compared to Ipods. I'm trying to find something Im happy with that allows me to escape Itunes. Since these work from Memory cards, then it's dead easy to build up an sd card library so it suit me I think.
I'll be down at my local post Office Depot tomorrow at 7.30 on the dot!!
Then when the Polaris arrives, I'll send some high res stuff through ....
Early Christmas for me!!

No .... It's MINE!!!!!! Frans might have some plans for a tour though. I think one is over with Claus and it hasn't returned yet. We do need a touring one over here really. Soon it'll be around, I'm sure. I it would also be nice to have someone in the eu building/supplying them. The import tax raises its price for us which is a pain. Maybe I should order 50 and stash them ready to sell in the UK. I could open a country bumpkin shop here!!
