It's an interesting device. Can't it be run off the mains while it charges?

I recommend you charge the battery uninterrupted for the first 24hrs, even if the blue led goes off. This will ensure the proper functioning of the battery in the long run. I understand how tempting it is to use the device as soon as you get your hands on it, but resist the temptation.

That is some intereseting news and what a temptation resistance test! I'm really looking forward for your opinion though I guess the Micro has so many things to play with that a full review could take some time.

Some interesting measures taken from this DAC can be found HERE, specially interesting is comparing stuff upscaled to DSD512 through HQPlayer with the rest.

I totally agree with you Mick. This device is just amazing. I only use the extreme (gain) in order to sufficiently drive my Alpha Primes, at around 12 to 1 o`clock. Also bit-perfect produces the most amazing sound for dsd and pcm, but some old 320 mp3s sound better with the Normal filter.
I also use the device for movies, connected via Optical to my Dune HD player. The 3D setting does wonders in this setup.
Extremely Happy Bunny
Antonis.

Interesting to hear the Mercury is a success Mick, I must dig out the Furutech cable I bought a while back to see if I can detect an improvement with the Micro. I'm using 'phones a lot more recently and honestly think I'm noticing more details than before, probably because I'm using so many combinations wtrialling my set-of-four Kameleons or maybe I'm getting more discerning! Roll on Postie tomorrow... Syd

You get some sleep Syd, its going to be a late one for you tomorrow!! Mick. iFi arrived safely today. It's a beautiful little device with a real quality look to the whole package. There are switches or sockets on every surface except the top and even it has a LED set in. The bad news is we forgot about the 24 hour battery charge I'm certainly glad Mick drew attention to this little device, I hadn't even heard of it. Syd

Its pretty easy to confuse the ifi dacs.
Before I decided to go with the Buffalo, I shopped around for the ifi micro idsd and almost pulled the trigger on the less expensive one (nano I believe) before I realized the differences.
Generally in the US we can get anything discounted but ifi apparently has pretty good control of their retailers. I couldn't find it for below $599 anywhere.
I just checked, however, and there is a new one on the bay for $450 + $11.45 shipping. I may even consider that because it seems like a really good price.
