I'm so glad that Mick talked me into getting one. It's a great amp and so versatile as well.
iPhone/iPod straight in digitally. Line out from Fiios and coax digitally from x3 or x5. Analogue in for anything else. Usb out from computer. Optical out from TV. Bass boost. Crossfeed. Variable power options. Built like a tank.
Easy for use out on patio.
A really good buy in my case. It gets a massive amount of use.
The update is dead easy.

not sure if i have a problem with my micro.
i always boot up my pc first before my micro and Ember, so i assume i am always using usb power and not the micro's battery. things have been running fine like this for a few months now. today my music just suddenly stopped playing and i noticed the led on the micro was alternating between blue and red! this i assume is a sign of low battery? why is this happening , when the device should be running on usb power? could my unit be faulty?

Simon, I think it might be to do with the turn on sequence.
Turn the Micro on. Then connect.
I think it might use power then.
It could be other way around. Ie connect micro with it turned off. When computer is running, turn on Micro.
It'll be the other way round to what you normally do.
I'm sure I saw something along those lines from Ifi on HF at one point.

i always turn on and boot up the pc first mate , then the micro.
i am wondering if the usb signal has dropped momentarily causing the micro to revert to battery power?

Hi,
could it be that you're using the iDSD in preamp mode (rather than direct mode) with the power switch in 'normal' mode? Happened to me (liked the sound better that way at the time) and what caused the drop out is that the USB can't provide more than 500mA (not 3.0 compliant or using a long cable) while the iDSD is using more than that.
If that's not the case, better drop a ticket to iFi.

Hi JuleZ3C, i am actually using the micro in direct mode and i do have split usb cable with 5v psu rated at 1000ma. just in the process of checking it over for dodgy connections. cheers

With the micro turned off and plugged into a live usb socket....does the blue light illuminate... showing that its accepting a charge.!!! Mick. i guess that question is directed at me, Mick? and yes it does. not had any issues recently, but i am not doing anything different than i did when i first aquired the ifi. in an ideal world i would buy something like the 2qute from chord to replace the ifi idsd, as i am never likely to use a dac as a portable (happy with my portable setup as it is). the only thing is , i doubt the 2qute would improve on the sq of the idsd, in my desktop system.

The new Teac UD-503, though not of the same high end pedigree, also looks nice and has some interesting features to match very decent specs. Twin mono new AK4490 DACs capable of native DSD256...

"I would by-pass the 2Qute and go for the Hugo, superb sounding unit...."
i am reading that many consider the usb on 2qute to be superior to hugo's, as it is isolated.

in hindsight i would have been better off with the idac2 instead of the idsd. missed the 2qute too.

OK Simon, i would suggest that you leave it to fully charge (until blue light goes out). And give it another try. As Ian stated..... the start up procedure as quoted in the manual will only operate from a live usb socket...otherwise it will default to battery power when switched on. This situation will occur if power to the usb socket is interrupted during use. I would by-pass the 2Qute and go for the Hugo, superb sounding unit.... Mick. Mick in your opinion how does the micro compare to the hugo ? mostly interested in their comparison as a dac rather than dac+amp.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using proboards had a read on the headfi thread for the teac last night. one guy on there said the build quality was awful compared to the previous offering. Javier , when you say its "not of the same high end pedigree", i assume you are comparing to the chord offerings and not the micro?
