www.prettygoodsoftware.net/DIY/VeritasFlyer.pdfthe price of the board will be around $ 600.- ? and you have to add enclosure, trafo's etc. It will have USB + other inputs and is galvanically separated. I think in the end it will be around $ 800.- ? Still in tinkering phase though AFAIK wow that would have to be pretty darn impressive for that money ! maybe the 1st option you posted would better suit my capabilities (and wallet)! though the idsd is tempting me.

does the idsd have any led's to confirm dsd playback? The micro does. It lights up a different colour, depending on what you send through it. thanks Ian. this thread has certainly whetted my appetite for a dsd dac, and hqplayer of course.

The Micro and x3 has totally blown my expectations far higher. DSD is just magic from the computer coming from HQ Player and the x3 can play them as well. Just so much money for a small box!!

I spent a few hours assuming that a lot of my 24/96 files were lower res than they were supposed to be. Then I read the manual Anyone wanting the iDSD should forget about the size and consider what it does, then it becomes a bargain! Syd

Oh right. It turns a different colour with DSD files. Can't remember exactly what colour though. Mine's indoors charging and I'm slumming it on the decking don't you know!!
It certainly has a lot of options which makes it incredibly useful. I put optical in for tv and can feed out to active speakers from the line out. Direct into computer via usb. Direct out from x3 on the digital out connection. Direct out from an IPad via the daft Apple connectors. Line in from other devices so that it behaves like a normal amp. Plus the masses of power that it's capable of and even adjustable in order to match an iem.
It's quite an amazing little box actually.

Well, I guess size has nothing to do with it. I was just commenting about perceived value really, not size.

It says it is a replacement for the old iDAC so I guess it would be beneath the micro in the iFi range? 1 chip Vs 2 chip, 384 PCM Vs 768, DSD256 Vs DSD512, etc.

It really is an excellent amp, Mick. I'm using it a lot now. It also matches any headphone in terms of power so easily. Can go from a Grado to Senn hd650 and down to the low impedance of the Fostex with ease.
I really like the input and power output options a lot.

would you guys agree with this quote from a head-fier?
"The problem with DSD64 has always been the large amount of ultra sonic noise that gets passed through. DSD128 should be the minimum starting point when upsample especially when using 44.1kHz source material. DSD128 moves a bit more of that noise further up the band making it less audible with the use of high quality filters and modulators whether 5th or '7th order preferred' yield some pretty awesome SQ. Unfortunately the higher up you go the more processing power the CPU needs to process the algorithms and for me I think that's why DSD128 sounds better than DSD256 on my setup because of all the Macbook's noise from the fan etc getting in the the stream. If I could I would go down the NAA route but I haven't found a NAA for dummies yet."
