IMO the way to make the most of the Micro would be using HQPlayer set up to convert everything to DSD256. As not everyone can afford it (it is cetainly not cheap), next best would be either SOX plugin in Foobar to upsample everything to 192KHz (and use Min. Phase or Standard on the DAC) or the SACD plugin to output either DSD256 or DSD512 and play with different micro modes to check which one sounds best to one's ear. Javier, this post has me interested. i may get an idsd in the coming months. But in the meantime would this SOX plugin work on my current system? (my usb-spdif converter accepts 24/192.) cheers Simon

Install normal version from the link and configure it with "target sample rate" = 192KHz, "Quality" = Best, "Passband" = default/95% and "Phase response" 0% (minimum) for studio recordings or 50% (linear) for classical/jazz/live

have installed the plugin and it shows on the list. but cannot find where to select the "target sample rate" and "quality". i have found and set the "passband" and "phase response" as you suggested.

ifi nano iDSDseems like a good choice if you don't need the headphone amp power and gimmics. I am still contemplating stuffing THIS in a box...

The nano is very good but lacks some features of the micro like USB isolation.

Thanks Javier, will do as you suggest. my dac is a meier stagedac. i use the coax spdif via a beresford asynch1 interface. It looks like the Meier has a WM8804 SPDIF receiver which is very good, it has the problem of not accepting 176.4KHz in hardware mode but other than that one of the best. The DAC uses a double mono WM8741 which is also a nice IC and can do 24/192 without a problem. The only let down seems to be the PCM270 USB to SPDIF chip.

I think Joro is going to replace the 4396 with a new one based on either the 4495 or the 4490, or maybe is not replacing but adding a higher end but he is onto something.

Yes, he is making a 'statement device' with dual mono DAC chips, super clocks, power supplies etc... It is going to cost a lot more and is lots bigger. It doesn't seem to be there yet and is still tweaking.

www.prettygoodsoftware.net/DIY/VeritasFlyer.pdfthe price of the board will be around $ 600.- ? and you have to add enclosure, trafo's etc. It will have USB + other inputs and is galvanically separated. I think in the end it will be around $ 800.- ? Still in tinkering phase though AFAIK

does the idsd have any led's to confirm dsd playback? The micro does. It lights up a different colour, depending on what you send through it.
