Personally I would only trade in the LCD-2 + filter in for the HD650 when you got tired of the physical weight of the LCD-2 or if you need to free some cash and don't want to compromise on audio quality. The filtered LCD2 is as close to flat and realism as the HD650 is. The HD650 is very comfortable, the LCD2 as well but differently. sounds like good advice Frans. trouble is , i have a curious nature and (at the moment) a bit of money burning a hole in my pocket. not to mention the offer i have for the lcd2.

It looks to like there's not a lot in it, a Simon. You might well be better off keeping the LCD2. I'd hate to see you lose a good headphone.

a mate at work has expressed an interest in my lcd2 and has offered iro £600.(more with filter) this got me thinking of doing a comparison with the 650. i estimate a good used 650 and a new filter would set me back just over £350. that would leave some in the pot for other things. it is tempting. ha, my mate has changed his mind and now wants an hd-650. i reckon he has been reading on here.

That might be a Godsend, Simon. The LCD2 looks like it is an excellent headphone.

One of my friends is going to lend me a Denon ah-d340. Heard that they're quite nice. Balanced at least. One down from the d600 so that'll be interesting. Can't find a 7100 cheap enough yet. If one pops up, I may get it.
Used to really enjoy the sound of the old Denon amplifiers. Noticeably warm in the bass, which they seem to retain in their headphones. The d600 is great really. When I crave a big, deep bass I go for that one. The funny thing is that speech on them isn't boomy, which really surprises me given the bass that they put out. It must be lower down rather than focused on 100 - 200 perhaps.

these 650's you sold to me Ian are keepers. i feel guilty for paying you what i did!!! would really like to hear them filtered. They are a top performer, Simon. You're really welcome to them. To be honest, I'd have given them to you if you had problems. For me, they were just tools of the trade. In spite of my love of headphones, I don't get obsessed by any one of them. Best of the bunch though are the Senns by far since they portray most music types well. Good all rounder. If I had given them to you, you might have thought I was even more of a weirdo than I am!! Filtered, they are the best I've heard. Deep, plunging bass, no mid bass hump, which leaves that smooth treble which extends way further than you think once the bottom end is sorted out. Personally, if you want a cable, I'd get just a standard Senn cable. Don't go spending money on one. Use the money for a Kameleon. Much bigger difference. Pads on yours were new as well so no need for replacements.
