I have to say that my Fuze is damned close in sound. The time for loading cards is slow by comparison and the plastic build isn't great, but the sound is really very good from these players.
They are the ones I take out with no worries about losing them.
Then again, the X1 is only £99 so it wouldn't break the bank. It's a cheap player; especially for what you get.

I'm converted. The Ipods are going.
I really like the ease of use of the Fiio and the sound is great.
I tried out the gapless today. A bit of a click between tracks sometimes, but they go and I was able to listen to a rip of the Wall for the first time in ages without those awful gaps between tracks.
It's not perfect, but better than before.

I got mine 2 day's ago, it certainly is an upgrade from a clip plus. Didn't understand why they don't recommend charging using the pc-usb connector. (I thought that was preferred over wall-mount). BTW I wonder who's going to use the star spangled protection stickers this side of the ocean.

Didn't understand why they don't recommend charging using the pc-usb connector. (I thought that was preferred over wall-mount). The USB out is max 500mA and when plugged in an unpowered USB hub (together with other connected devices) will draw too much power and may cause the other devices to give problems. Charging from USB will also take a lot longer, several times the wallwart charging time. A wall wart can easily provide 2 to 4 times the max current of USB output. USB3 can supply more power though so less of a problem plugged in those USB ports. Another thing is that the device 'connects' itself on software level on a PC USB but won't on a charger. The main reason is much quicker charging though.

I thought that longer charging time equaled longer battery life. Frans you just saved me a lot of rechzrging time ? Got one small remark on the X1, RFI, can't stick the x1 and phone together in briefcase.

That kind of depends on the type of battery. The Lithium kind used doesn't mind to be fast charged. There is the temperature thing though. It will be a little warmer while fast charging.

I'm getting fed up with the RFI, what can I do to minimize it (wrap it up in alu foil or what?).

That may be very hard to get rid off. As a test you could wrap alufoil all around it but it will have to be connected electrically to 'ground' of the player (sleeve of the headphone plug).
Even when you mount it in an RF shielded box it may not help as the signals most likely can enter through the headphone plug onto the PCB abd cause problems.
I assume you hear 'GSM sounds' from the headphone out of the X1 directly or is there an amp inbetween ?

The kameleon is in between. The GSM sounds are killing my zen.
I'll try flight mode tomorrow, I'ld rather turn of my gsm then leave the kameleon out of the setup...

What happens when the X1 is directly connected to a headphone in the same setup ?

I'll try it tomorrow as an experiment but I can't remember having the problem with the sansa clip plus (and kameleon).

Problem remains without kameleon. But Flight Mode of my phone works fine, no more rfi (no more calls as well).

Hmm so it seems the X1 is sensitive.. bummer. I kind of hoped it may have been the interlink between X1 and Kameleon, not being screened well enough.
How far do you need to move the phone away from the X1 ? It may be a question of 10cm or more.

I can't put it in the same briefcase as my dap and amp, if I stick the phone in my pants pocket there's no interference but I don't like to fry my nuts...

just about to order a memory card for my x1. i notice they now have "classes". is there a minimum standard to consider regarding class and read speed, for playback of hi-res files? anything to avoid?
