After cashing my chips in on the Mojo I managed to get a good deal on a lightly used pair of Nighthawks. Should be here tomorrow or Fri. Guess there is an upside to this work lark

I knew you'd be the first to try them out Mark! I look forward to your impressions.

Yup, curiosity got the better of me A new pair was just too expensive to contemplate buying blind but when these came up the decision became a whole lot easier. I feel I've read up on them enough to get a good handle on them and get the feeling I'll like them. The things folk most commonly complain about really aren't negatives to me (sure you feel the same about the HD650).

I DO feel the same way. That's the reason I'm looking at the Nighthawk's myself. A bit steep for me right now but if they do what people say I might be tempted some time in the future. I'm also looking at the new Beyers but they're also a bit too expensive right now.

The DT1770 Pro looks superb. It's doing well in reviews too. I've always been looking for a really good closed-back pair and the Beyer seem to fit the bill. They're still a bit rich for me but you never know.

Reading this I've suddenly realised I've turned into a bit of a Beyer fan-boy. I've got at present :- Beyer DT-150 Beyer DT-250 Beyer DT-770 Beyer DT-990 Beyer Custom One (with bass control - Yeah Baby!!) It just creeps up on you without you realising . . .

They're still a bit rich for me but you never know. There are much better options in the price range (The new Tx0RP revisions come to mind for a lot cheaper). Check out the new Fostex Massdrop TH-X00 which will be on sale on friday for $400 USD (more info on SBAF).

I noticed the TH-X00 had been announced just after I bought the NH. If I'm honest I'd probably have opted for that as I was deciding between the TH-900 and NH....common sense prevailed as the UK pricing on the Fostex is just ridiculous.
I'm in two minds whether to order the TH-X00 anyway and keep the one I like best.
I was initially interested in the DT-1770 but not entirely sold on it at the current price - just a feeling rather than any hands on time with it. I also suspect before too long we'll start to see Amazon offering it with quite a good discount off rrp.
Not closed back but the black friday offer on the Hifiman HE-400i ($299+shipping) looks a good deal. Imagine a few owners who paid full price will be feeling a bit miffed right now though.

No NH in time for the weekend it seems. The parcel arrived at the international hub (they've been sent to Coventry in other words) early Wed morning but not budged since. Wonder how HM Customs are enjoying them

Hope things get sorted out soon Ian. Must be incredibly frustrating knowing it's so close to home but having no idea what's going on.
To my surprise the NH were delivered by Royal Mail about 30 mins ago completely unannounced. DHL passed the parcel onto Parcelforce but despite the handover PF's tracking page still thinks the parcel is in Coventry and Royal Mail's website thinks its with PF! I have it which is the main thing.
I'm going to take the advice of others and allow myself a good amount of time to acclimatise to the Nighthawk's sound...think I'm going to need it. It's not just the sound out of the box that leaves me with very mixed feelings as the design and build does to. Heck even the cables do. I don't think I've ever received a headphone before that on first impressions has left me quite so perplexed.
What I will say is comfort is excellent and they are very light so longer listening sessions should not be a problem. If you like their sound of course....too early to tell if I fall into that camp.

Now you have me interested!! You have some doubts about it it seems? I find my first feelings stick like mud as far as headphones go. I adapt very quickly to their sound which is really nice for me, but might not be the best for reviews!!
Funny thing is that I get a very quick feeling which I can talk myself out of with further use, but it generally returns and ends up being an Achilles heel for me.
I think for me, a bit of measuring followed by a bit of subjective is best. Trouble is that the measurements can dictate your subjective impressions, so perhaps subbjective to measurements and then back to subjective for checking the measurements!!!
Having said that, I was a bit suspicious of the Nighthawk reviews myself!!
I think I'm going backwards. I'm sitting here with an Edifier on my head and it's great!! And they're dirt cheap as well.

It's ironic that the one headphone currently on the market which I'd happily want to change the cable on should come from a company better known for it's.. cables. Even if they do sound fantastic I couldn't live with the cables it's supplied with.
Pity we can't get you up here with those Nighthawk's though Mark. I would really like to hear those.
