Sounds like I have a pathforward and some time to save for the HD800 as I need to wait for the external filter module to use with the Ember.
Juat have to put my Paradox up for sale now.
Thanks again!!

Great responses!! Thank you so much.
I have a Kameleon with K701 filter coming. From the sample MP3 Frans sent, it appears to be a huge improvement. The K701 with small classical (piano & violin or string quartet) with the filter should be wonderful.
I listen at low levels - as low as I can so the K701 doesn't bother my tinnitus too much. For the most part, my tinnitus is always present. It's closed headphones that makes it worse.
The endgame for me sounds like the HD800/HD800s with filter. I am hoping Jeremy or Frans will soon have the capability to use the filter in conjunction with the Ember.
I believe that is in the works. Any timing??
Now to decide between the HD800 or HD800s. The HD800 used will likely be the way to go as the filter will address any issues, and I expect to see several used soon with the HD800s now out.
Thoughts / comments?

Interesting post Frans. So the question I have is, if you had to choose one headphone, what would it be?
I am thinking about getting a new set of headphones. I have a set of Paradox, that I love. But closed headphones tend to aggravate my tinnitus. So I am thinking of selling my Paradox.
I have an HD580 and an K701. The Kameleon will address the K701 issues. I like the HD580's, but they are not as engaging as the Paradox.
I'd love to get a set of headphones that are open and as fun and engaging as the Paradox. Any recommendations? I was hoping the HD800 with Kameleon filter would be the end game for me. But I'm not sure -- even with the filter, it sounds like the HD800 might be too "clinical".
The other option is to stick with the 580 & K701 and use the money from the Paradox to pick up a DAC.
Thanks for anyone that has thoughts or suggestions.
-Tim

Sounds like it's an easy headphone to recommend when paired with the Kameleon filter module. Is the HD800 your "go to" headphone with the Kameleon?

Thanks Syd. This sounds perfect. I just need to figure how to get a Kameleon-2.

Does the Kameleon improve the K701 considerably? If so, that might be the best option... keep the K701 and pick up a Kameleon with the appropriate filter.
Does anyone make the Kameleon's for purchase? If so, how much does it run?
Thanks,
Tim

I travel a bit with my job (typically staying a night or two at each location). Any suggestions on a good "travel" headphone?
Size doesn't much matter, I'd prefer open or semi-open (I can only listen to closed headphones for a short time with my tinnitus). Solid construction is also key.
I'd like to keep the cost under $100, if possible, but can pay more if needed.
Typically I pack my K701s with me, but they are bit brighter than I like and I'd like to get a "dedicated" travel pair of headphones.
I will drive it from my iPod classic or perhaps a Kameleon-2 (if I can find a way to purchase one built).
Thanks,
Tim

HI all,
I've recently picked up an Ember 2.1 and love it! I've tried an RCA Cleartop, 6n2p, 6H30Pi (6n6p), 6SN7, and a 5751. Of these, I prefer the 6H30Pi. It's the "warmest" (smoothest) of the bunch. However, I'd like to find something that is a bit warmer/smoother than the 6H30Pi.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Tim

Thanks Frans. I'm on the SBAF loaner list to give it a try and with only have a 2-3 days, I was trying to see if there were some good suggestions I'll just experiment with it when I get it.

So are there any general "rules" or guidelines on how to configure the Ember? For example, this setting will tend to do X, this combination of settings Y, etc.? Sort of a quite "how to use the Ember" guide.

Impressive!! How does this compare to the HD580, HD600, or Paradox?
