I think its that I'm not used to having my ears touch the pads. It's been years since I've owned a pair of grados. I'll likely get used to them.
I tried the pleather pads, but they are fairly thin and my ears touch the felt of the driver. A slightly thicker pleather pad may do the trick, but I'm not sure they are available for HD662-EVO.

Received mine today. I haven't made any mods yet. My only concerns so far are the pads and clamping force. I am sure the clamping force will relax over time, but the pads are not very good. They feel like grado pads - very itchy and sitting on the ear. My other headphones (Paradox/T50, HD580, & K701), the pad does not touch my ears.
I'll give it a few days, but may have to let these go.

Thanks Frans. Mine are in the mail from Thomann -- not sure how long they will take to get to here though.

Does one pad perform "better" than the other?

Any noticeable difference using the linear PSU?

Quick question regarding the tape. I assume any kind of tape will work -- e.g., masking, packing, duct?

So with the external filter it sounds like you get the "ultimate set-up" with the Ember -- you're choice of tube as well as the filter to address any headphone issues.

I've emailed both Avlex (US Distributer for Superlux) as well as Superlux in Taiwan. No response yet from Superlux, but Avlex did respond and stated that there are no plans to bring the HD662-EVO to the US.
Damn!

Any idea when the Superlux HD662-EVO will be available in the states?

I'm going to have to find an HD662-EVO and make the mods, but they don't seem to be available in the states.
How would the DT990-pro be as a "fun headphone" or compared to the 662?

Nice! I had mine tested a few weeks ago. All perfect for my age (49), except 8khz in the right ear where I can't hear a thing. Funny, I never knew it!! The audiologist expects it was from some sort of damage when I was a kid.

Thanks! I'm hoping to audition the Ether as well as some of the HiFiMan's (e.g., 400i) in a couple of weeks. I'm actually toying with the idea of bringing my Ember with me as well as my HD580's so that I can compare the headphones to something I am with. Couple that with some well known songs lossless from ipod line-out and I should be able to perform a pretty good comparison.

It's arrived. Had a good result with the first time. But my beans aren't fresh enough. Beans have been open about a month I'd guess and just stored in the foil packet with the top rolled down and clipped shut. The method though is a success. I put in one scoop of coffee, filled to level 2 with hot water. Then pressed into a mug... found I needed just a splash more hot water to take the strength down a touch... but with better, fresher coffee it would have tasted just right I reckon. How fine is you grind? The finer the grind (as well as more beans), the slower the coffee will drip through. It will go more quickly at the beginning as the grounds are "circulating" in the water. But, as the water settles it will begin to slow down.
