It does! but I don't recommend pushing it that far, I upsample too but to DSD256 which is already aplenty to send all ultrasonic garbage way beyonf the standard filter's low pass frequency. I get no hiss with my iDSD at DSD512 though.
Are you gettig hiss at all DSD rates or just at the highest ones? Are you using the latest firmwarte (V5.2) and drivers (V3.2)? What about Foobar? are you on 1.3.17 or on the latest 1.4.b6?

That is strange, mine works fine even at DSD512. If you are not on 5.2 firmware try that (can help if necessary but it really is an easy process)

if you think DSD512 is "pushing it" i will stick with 256. is there anything to be gained by doing a firmware update if i stay at DSD256?

It depends on what version of the firmware you have but some updates have fixed XMOS issues and others improved DSD playing. If you right click the iFi icon at the lower right of the screen and clic on "Show" you'll get to the information window. There check the "Info" tab to see which firmware and driver you have.

DO you have thw iFi icon in the notification area? if you do, right clik on it and then click on show, a window like the one below should pop up. Select the last tab for checking drivers and firmware. Buffer settings for the other stuff and Status to see device name and current sounding audio sample rate.

That means you are sending DoP instead of native DSD hence the unsupported PCM rate.
