Luckily for me I make copies of my OS (with Snapshot) every few days and I simply reloaded a version from when Foobar with KS worked well for me and ....all is well again. Don't know what happened but now all is ok. Thanks for your help.

foobar2000 v1.3.6 has been released. libFLAC has been updated to v1.3.1, fixing known security vulnerabilities. Everyone is advised to upgrade as soon as possible.

It has been published for some time but nonetheless... V. 1.3.7 Changelog- Fixed FLAC seeking regression from the previous version. - Added support for MP4 DASH files. - Fixed PPHS resampler crash on extreme sample rates. - Fixed missing WavPack mime type handler. - Improved DirectSound output behaviors with low-latency configurations (mainly for new ABX Comparator). It can be downloaded here: Foobar2000 V. 1.3.7Two very interesting components have also been updated, one is the ABX Comparator for those wishing to try comparing say regular CD to HiRes, and the other is the Binary Comparator for comparing two files at the bit level (not listening): ABX Comparator 2.0Binary Comparator 2.0

Foobar2000 is the one thing I miss since moving over to OS X two years ago. I wish there were an equivalent on Mac.

Hello Javier
Are there any sound improvements worth upgrading from my 1.1.11 version of foobar to the actual 1.3.7 ?

wow!! may I ask why 1.1.11?
To the point, if by sound improvment you are asking if bit pefect from 1.1.11 is be different in anyway to bit perfect from 1.3.7 then then I'm afraid AFAIK the answer is no. On the other hand if by sound improvment you mean sound improvments as in new functionality, new codecs, bug fixes in sound related areas, etc. then yes, there are quite a few improvments.
There are 25 versions between 1.1.11 and 1.3.7 and many, many things have changed. The latter is perfectly stable and unless you are using a plugin that you MUST have but is obsolete and incompatible with the latest version I just can't see any reason for sticking with the "ancient" version and not upgrading. Same goes for plugins should you also be using outdated ones.

Hi! Well, I started my audiophile-experience with that version of foobar, then managed to get the right settings for bit-perfect, oversampling and other things and finally installed a cool skin (Darkone) with some efforts (some errors and random crashes). After that that build worked like a charm and I never felt the need to reinstall and re-build all for a new version. I think that now the time is come and I will do it 1.3.7 is full stable on windows 7 64bit?

I'm running 1.2.8 on Win 7 64 with no problems and don't expect any when I get around to updating.

at the moment i am using the sox resampler to upsample all my rips to 24/192. how does this compare to playing the original files at standard res and selecting the oversampling(8x) option on my dac?

It depends on how you set SOX, if you used Best quality and min phase there should be a noticeable difference. If you selected Best and linear phase there could be a slight difference and if you select Normal plus linear probably no hearable difference.

Hi Guys, A little Tutorial useful if you have an ASUS Essence ST or STX soundcard paired with Foobar2000 and a little troubleshooting for different DAC's running through ASIO drivers. 1. Advanced Setup on Foobar with Essence ST/STX -install the xonar official drivers (1794) from asus site -install asus asio drivers -follow Javier's guide ( here part1 and here part 2) -in Menu->File->Preferences->Output->Asio double click on "Xonar Essence STX ASIO" tab and select Bit-Depth = 24bit and Latency = 30~40ms -in Menu->File->Preferences->Output in the "Buffer Lenght" tab put around 300ms if you are loading tracks from RAM (as explained in the tutorial) and around 800-1000ms if you load tracks directly from HDD -if you are using SOX upsampler set it going in Menu->File->Preferences->DSP Manager in the "Active DSP tab" select "Resampler (SOX) and click on "Configure Selected": Target rate: 192KHz; Quality: Best; Passband: 95%; Aliasing: Unchecked; Phase response: for studio recorded music like Pop or Rock use 0% (min phase) for live, acoustic or classical use 50% (linear). Remember that if you are using Foobar through ASIO or WASAPI you will bypass Windows Mixer and Asus Xonar control panel, so you don't have to care about the value there (frequency, bit depth, etc); if you are not using those drivers you are using DirectSound and then Windows Mixer and Asus Xonar control panel will have the control so you will have to configure them properly. In addition, remember that if you are using ASIO drivers but you haven't any DSP active in foobar you are running in Bit-perfect mode so you aren't oversampling anything. 2) How to play testing Tones When trying to play various testing tone either random ones from internet or directly created by foobar going in File-> Add Location-> and tiping "tone://freq,duration" (so for example "tone://440,10" for a 440hz signal for 10seconds) + using ASIO drivers it's possible that you will encounter various problems doing so and you will be unable to play them correctly, either stopped by an "cannot use exclusive mode" error or simply getting no sound out of your DAC or Soundcard. Funnily enough if you try to play the same tone skipping ASIO (or for example using Windows Media Player which is playing in DirectSound, as mentioned earlier) the tone will play fine. How to solve this? It seems that there is an incompatibility somewhere between those tones and ASIO but there is a solution for playing tones properly when using ASIO drivers. Download "ASIO Audio Test Signal Generator" from here or "The Audio Test File Generator" from here. The first program play directly a tone while the latter generate a .wav file with the tone. With both programs you can choose the Frequency, the Duration, the Attenuation, the Sample Rate and the Sample bit width; furthermore you can generate a Sweep Wave, White Noise and Pink Noise . Using those programs will run flawlessy with your Foobar+Asio driver setup. Thanks to Javier for his findings and explanations and to the author of those useful programs George W. Taylor aka TropicalCoder (give a look at his site, he got amazing stuff there). That's all folks, I hope this little writing could help someone

guys if i have foobar set up correctly for bit perfect and the setting in device manager ticked to allow programs to have exclusive control of my device, should i be able to hear sound from annoying internet video adverts mixed in with my foobar playback?

That will happen unless you use either WASAPI exclusive or ASIO as output. These lock the output device to themselves so no other program can access it.
