I wonder whether your computer's spec is high enough for dsd? Mine isn't and I got sound at wrong speeds or no sound depending on the quality of the playback setting. Javier would know what this setting was because he set Foobar up for me. I keep my music on a low spec machine and it can't cope with dsd. i would think i would be fine. its an i5 running at 3.4ghz, 8gb ram. its a couple of years old now but used to run games very well when i bought it. i have since grown out of games! so i believe it is overkill for my needs now. as you say, Javier would know better than me.

problem is back again. may have to ditch the aiso dsd, as it seems that switching between upscaled files and none upscaled (24/192) files is what makes it throw a wobbly.

Your PC is OK for playing 'standard' DSD 'as is' but it doesn't have enough power for upsampling PCM to DSD or DSD to higher sample rates. Simon's problem is most likely a faulty SACD plugin config.

It depends on what you want, I have a 2nd gen lowly Core i3 2100 and it is good for upsampling in Foobar to any rate and up to DSD128 in HQPlayer. The problem with Ian's PC is it has an Intel Atom CPU which was originally meant for tablets or NetPCs. If your PC has a recent i3 or i5 you shouldn't have any problems with Foobar up to DSD256 or even DSD512.

My music pc is a real cheapo Simon. Nothing much else on it.
Yours is a lot better than mine but hi res does take quite a bit of processing power. The result on my pc is that anything really high runs at a slow speed and wrong pitch as though the tape has been slowed down.
No connection problems, but wierd that the fault isn't permanently there. So either a lead or as Javier has said, it might be dependent on what resolution you're playing and the plugin not being set up properly.
It is a minefield for anyone who really doesn't understand what is going on!!!

Probably won't run Minesweeper My machine is crap. Pretty, but that's about it. I originally got it just to store a load of mp3 files on and then Javier introduced me to the gob smacking world of hi res and what I heard as big dynamic range!! I got greedy and wanted bigger and better and the computer said .... No!! Then Javier told me the bad news about its processor.

How weird is that? It works for a while and then plays up? If it was configured incorrectly, it wouldn't work in the first place.
Is it only happening with certain types of file?

Would you like me to take a look Simon? I think tomorrow evening I may have some free time.
