I really don't think one headphone does it all. They'll play sound but don't always get the best. Let alone what you're doing when listening and what surrounding noise is like. I know that many think Grados suck. Try them with speech and they're great, where Senns can bloom too much. Momentums have too much mid bass ...... Perfect for mobile outdoor, when you kind of need a bit more bloom. Some of the AKGs are excellent with chamber music and acoustic jazz. The Sony V6 really tells you what's going on in TV broadcast music mixes. I find the hd650 middle of the road actually, and it plays most things nicely. I'm less keen on orchestral with them. Hd600 if I want a lighter touch from the 650. The th900 puts sparkle into dull, lifeless recordings and are quite easy to drive. The Denon D2000 puts a sparkle into recordings with less top edge than the th900, so it acts as a calmer Fostex for anything a bit brash. And so it goes on. I guess EQ would help but I've found that anything affordable adds other stuff too, like distortion and noise. If I only had one headphone, I guess I'd get a top notch EQ to go with it.
Never stuck with one headphone in 45 years of listening. What's a top-notch EQ?

Something that does minimal damage to the sound in the process. I've tended to avoid them since the ones I've used have introduced noise. I think software based digital ones are a lot better in this respect and I was thinking more about a piece of hardware for CD players.
They also need to be more focuses than many are so they are less 'blunderbuss' in the frequencies that they attack.

Hi,
i´m Nils from Germany and i found this place through my attempt to modify some HD681 as X-mas Presents(worked well, exceptionally well, so good that i had to keep one for myself...). Simultaneously, i was looking for a really good and affordable Amp, what led me to Garage 1217, i had no idea it is related. My taste in music is spread all over the place, but mostly Rock, Jazz, Classical and Blues. I´m a self confessed Gearslut at the no nonsense side of audio and i happily design Speakers myself.

You're most welcome Nils. Solderdude has done some great things with the hd681. Makes it a bargain buy. Hope you enjoy some time on here.

Ich hab auch kein Problem mit Englisch. Ich wohne in der nähe von Rheine, 50km bis Enschede. You figured out some pretty amazing stuff, yet i have to hear your Amps. I Hope there are no problems importing them, is there any experience regarding this Point? The local customs office is a real PITA...

Hello, My name's Erica, from the US. Rabbit kind of caught me lurking for a long time on this forum so I figure I better introduce myself.
A total noob to audio but it has definitely been interesting learning and listening to new things. I have appreciated the more chill attitude here compared to other forums, especially when it seems like everyone out there wants to buy newest, shiny-est, most expensive toy.
Anyways, that's all I got. Erica

You're most welcome Erica. Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you but I do watch the place a bit like a policeman!! Don't worry about noob questions. It's an audio forum but also just a hobby for enjoyment and sometimes, we sit on here talking about the weather or barbeques!!! You'll find that people on here will try to help you and not try to make you look silly, I'm good at making myself look daft and even laugh at myself sometimes; I'm such a saddo!!! We're all cheap skates and try to find good, cheap stuff!!!

Hey all! I'm Trevor, and would like to be your token Canadian - unless that position has been filled. Some folks might have stumbled across my trail of good-natured idiocy over on Head-Fi already (same alias), so you know what to expect . Kind newish to the porta-fi realm, having drifted from the stereo components. I'd say I fall into the mid-fi realm, after all we Northern Canadians are a humble bunch (unless its trucks, then all bets are off ) See you round, Cheers

Welkom to this forum.
