Do you know of a source for fakes? No, see msr7's fake the first time. Seen very cheap(half price) msr7's on this site, but its not working now: http://s..com/fuuqyauU I think its just starting to spread.

I have not seen any pictures of the ATH-MSR driver (the rear side) anywhere on the web. Only my own pictures. The only other pictures are artist impressions of 'a' Hires Driver'.
The sound description of this version matches that of Bob Katz. Strangely enough he reviewed the EXACT same headphone Tyll used (was Tyll's headphone) who initially thought it sounded crap but on second thought praised it through the roof.
I expect a bit of 'Nighthawk-effect' here where some think it is the best and others think it sounds bad.
Do you know of any pictures of the rear of the MSR7 drivers ? What would give away that it is a fake ? There must be a tell-tale sign ? Measurements (aside from the bass) seem to be very similar to Tyll's.
The one I had sounded similar (once fixed) to another version I heard in which case the Chinese knock-off would have the same build quality AND sound ?
Still... I would appreciate it if you can find some real pictures showing real and fake. Usually these are easily found on the web but cannot find anything about it.
Do you own MSR7 ? Can you take pictures ?

Audio Technica aren't the only company to use these daft exploded diagrams on their boxes and from what I've seen most production drivers look very little like these stylised impressions.
My understanding is that the pair Solderdude measured was supplied by a friend of Rabbit's in the audio trade. Most UK dealers only source through official channels so I'm inclined to believe they are genuine and without anything more concrete to back up your suspicions it's hard to take them too seriously (no offence intended). Some photos of what a genuine MSR-7 driver would go a long way.

Seems like you may well be right. This video clearly shows a different driver: Pads look different as well. yeah ... possibly fake headphone.

Sorry I just saw that and thought it was funny. But sometimes my humour is a bit 'cryptic' so I deleted my comment in case you thought I was poking fun at you. No offence taken! (or intended)

I thought the same straight away when I saw the Russian site!!! Charming, I thought. When I see my mate, I'll ask him about that. I hated it's sound and really couldn't live with it. Didn't want to see the headphone again. I have no idea where he got them from, but interesting to think that a guy who sells headphones might not know he's selling fakes........ Very worrying. If it was a fake, then I'm very impressed. Build and pads were superb. In fact, I really liked the build..... just that awful sound. Never realised that the fake brigade might have got into the msr7. Bugger. Has anyone else got an msr7?

The funniest thing is that m70x and m50/x have the exact same driver(dont forget about yamaha mt-220, roland rh-a30 etc.)

Phoned my mate. He doesn't sell them thank goodness. He was trying mine with a view to stocking them and after hearing it, decided to not bother, which is why he gave it to me!!
He wasn't too pleased to hear that it might have been a fake!!

Below the driver of a genuine ATH-MSR7, below that of the measured (and most likely fake) I moved the ATH-MSR7 measurements to the 'Crap & Rubbish' section.
