Yes, I agree with Ian. I also have a Polaris....and Ember. Perhaps it would be wiser to try to sell it at HF (?).
Good luck!

That was my first impression too when I listened to them for the first time. But when I switched back and forth to my (filtered) He400i, I noticed that the hd800 lacked bass body significantly, depending on the music style. Glad that you are liking them. Also, comfort is great! ;-) are you referring to stock hd800 or filtered? I meant the Stock version! When filtered, they sound absolutely marvellous! Like you, I got (aka soldered) my filter module a few weeks after I got the HD800, so I could do a lot of "stock" listening before the filter was ready :-)

i certainly was not expecting, or wanting, them to become a bass monster, Frans. just merely stating that i did not have a problem with the stock sound.( to me the sound is damn good with or without!) having done some extensive listening i do prefer them on Kameleon, but could live with them stock. unlike the dt770! could not use these without Kameleon and nearly moved them on prior to getting a module for them. ok, ive had this setup for a little time now and my view has changed slightly! "having done some extensive listening i do prefer them on Kameleon, but could live with them stock." this comment i would change to ............. could have lived with them stock, IF i had never heard them on Kameleon! That was my first impression too when I listened to them for the first time. But when I switched back and forth to my (filtered) He400i, I noticed that the hd800 lacked bass body significantly, depending on the music style. Glad that you are liking them. I am sure you will not regret it! My HD650 and HE400i have been in the drawer since I got mine filtered :-)

...designed by John Westlake. Usually very good bang for the buck in my past experience. He is also designing a crowd funded dac in pinkfishmedia.

If you buy them now, there is enough time to recover for Christmas ;-)

That is almost too cheap to be true. I paid for my hd800 second hand "never used" around 650 GBP. Hd800s should be even more expensive...but who knows, good luck!

In Europe Tupisac offered to build a few Kameleon inline filter units. But he has gone "missing" since May from this forum... :-(
Frans are you planning to order more of those boards?

I totally agree with Frans. The differences between filtered HE400i and filtered HD650 were audible but I don't think I could say any of the two felt "better". This kameleonized HD800 is very special and clearly a step up compared to the former. Extremely confortable to wear for long periods.
It has been fun to get back to soldering after 17 years of rest :-)

Hehehe, that is a good approach. We bought the house, and it is certainly upsizing our apartment :-)
So I will stick to these HD800 for a looong time!

I got mine second hand "like new" for £650. It is expensive but not outrageous. Probably my last acquisition for a while...we are bidding for a house :-)

I just finished soldering the HD800 filter. I made a small modification in C5, to have a tad more bass (220 nF instead of 330 nF) :-) The result is incredible. These cans separate instruments better than my filtered HD650, but having roughly the same amount of bass and rumble. With the filter, they are not tiring at all.

I finally managed to source and "almost new" HD800 for ~650 EU and now I am waiting for the components to build the Kameleon filter module.
So far I have used the filter from my HD650 that simply adds a bit more sub-bass and seems to leave the rest of the FR untouched. I thought I would not be able to listen to them in stock form, but I actually like them with the HD650 filter. I agree that I would prefer not having the 6kHz resonance peak, but I added the 1ply of toilet paper as mentioned by Frans and it helps significantly to reduce it. The extra bass from the HD650 is very welcomed :-)
First impressions are surprisingly positive, even without the dedicated HD800 filter. After listening for 1hour last night, I went back to my HD650 and I preferred the former. Will see if my impressions are the same after the session tonight!
