Hate to revive this thread, but has anyone here had a chance to listen to these? I find myself considering them lately.

I enjoy the HD688 too much at the moment so i see no point in getting a similar headphone.
Also, browsed through the head-fi thread a bit...that was...something.

How do these Takstars compare to the Superlux HD688?

Switched to 3 ply paper for the port hole - bass is now more pleasant. Will try the filter if i can get the parts this week.
Thank you, Frans.

Working on a filter that replaces the toilet paper. Also slightly different way of using the bass port (not totally sealed anymore). For now more clarity, more 'open' sounding and slight 'etch' is removed. More sparkle... the toilet paper removes a bit too much 'air' for my taste. takes a week or so to put mods on paper. Requires soldering parts and the driver. Worth the bother to me. Happy to hear further improvement is possible. Hope the soldering is not complicated.

Interesting that they used paper on the proto.

The proto has the white paper covering the squarish hole in the middle while the production model has a black mesh. What effect would replacing the mesh with that type of paper have? (been wondering for a couple of day )

I also want to try some rubber/foam under the pads but didn't have time lately. Need to listen some more, but i quite enjoy them as they are especially with rock/jazz.
Edit: did it now - there is an improvement in the low end.
Overall i like the modified HD688, happy with the purchase. Sad that they are not like the proto, but...oh well.

Mods done. I used a dense felt inside the cups (only thing i had at home). Did not use any foam under the pads to lift them since i do not have issues with the fit/comfort - might try it later. To my ears they are a significant improvement over the HD662-EVO across the board. I've been trying some EQ, but i'm not sure exactly how to proceed and how much to compensate (some EQ between 2k and 4k does seem to make it more "lively"). Frans, could you please help? Playing with something like this: Also, if you ever decide to sell the proto, please let me know and thank you again for the guide.

Would it be difficult to move the 688 production driver into the modified proto enclosure? Maybe this would reveal more details about the changes in the production model and it could be improved further.
And thank you again for all the latest info.

So even with all the mods so far, they are pretty far from the proto 688...to bad. I still have hope . Would they be able to reach proto quality with a filter? Do you think superlux could/would help in any way if you asked? I guess not...
