I have a question that might be a little silly can the HD650 have the same bass as the 662EVO with certain amps/filters/mods?

So the felt on the production models has a significant effect above 6kHz. At the moment mine have 4 out of the 6 holes sealed and 1 ply of paper towel. Should i remove the felt and add 2 plies of paper? I'm really happy with the sound, but i could try, it's just that i'm not sure i would notice the difference - also, putting the pads back on is not something i need in my life Btw, does it matter which of the 6 holes are sealed? out of the 3 holes on each side, does it matter if you seal 1 and 2, leaving the third open or sealing 1 and 3, leaving the middle one open?

I really can not say if they used different "paper" in front of the holes, it looks exactly the same to me compared to the pictures in the modifications guide - texture, thickness and placement.
I taped 4 out of the 6 holes and added 1 thin layer of paper, using the velour pads and there has been an improvement in the sound, especially the mids/vocals seem more natural. Can't say i feel the need to change anything at the moment.
If you ever have a chance to test a retail model and find that other mods may be more effective i will give them a try, but i am happy with the sound for now, really amazing.

I just removed the pads from mine and there is a round piece of what appears to be synthetic felt about 1-2 mm thick on top of the driver - its glued in place. Sorry for the phone quality images. Were these present of the review sample? Or is this something they added later on? If it is something they added recently it's interesting that they went with felt since in the measurements, it did almost nothing as far as i understand. I think i will just to the tape mod for now since i didn't notice any harsh treble yet. EDIT: in the end i went with 1 thin layer of tissue paper.

I am so grateful for the recommendation - both to Frans for the amazing article and to Ian who directed me to this forum. Thank you. Did I? Blimey, I must be getting old. I don't remember!! Glad that you like them. They are great value for money and I quite like them as they arrived!! Yes, you did, in August last year, on head-fi - i asked you about the Ember/Polaris for the HD650. Can't wait to get home, mod 'em and plug them in a decent source. I'm thinking Hey you by Pink Floyd as a first song...yes...should be good

I just got them an hour ago. Initially they were supposed to get here on Monday but UPS is awesome. Since I am at work at the moment, I only had a chance to listen to a few songs on my phone and yes, they are amazing. Indeed, the sound is very good out of the box without mods. I am curious to see how the sound changes with mods, especially since they are very easy to do. Build quality is pretty much the same as the 681 EVO and should last a while - a friend owns the 681 EVO and he didn't have any trouble with them and he's not the careful type. Everything Frans said in the modification guide about the sound is spot-on. The bass especially, is great. Vocals were nice, but I cannot say i was impressed probably since i am used to my HD650 - voices are a bit forward (i would say) but not loud...hard to describe for me. I don't have many other headphones to compare them with, but for the price, these are truly amazing. I am so grateful for the recommendation - both to Frans for the amazing article and to Ian who directed me to this forum. Thank you.

Any idea when the Superlux HD662-EVO will be available in the states? I would guess May, but the easiest thing you can do is to contact Superlux directly on their website. They should know exact dates and retailers. I've always received answers from them within 24 hours. Also, I've just ordered mine...can't wait

Amazing work as always. So out of the 662-EVO, 681 and 681-EVO, all with modifications, which one would you recommend?
Edit: Just finished reading your modifications guide and got the answer - 662-EVO.
Hope they will be available soon.
