Superlux answered and said the HD688 is the same as the prototype and will be launched in a month or so. My initial thought was "why didn't they make changes based on your recommendations?" but as long as the sound quality is as good as the prototype, for 60€, i'd rather make the changes myself after you get and measure the production model.

Apparently thomann will receive the HD688 at the end of January.

Hope the HD688 will soon be available on thomann. A higher quality housing would have been nice, but i find the 662 quite ok, so if these new ones sound as good as the prototypes, i don't really care about the mediocre housing.
The description on their site is somewhat weird
HD687 Very suitable for classic music appreciation
HD688 Excellent sound quality

Thank you for your work Frans, the closed version seems amazing. But the price... Still have high hopes that the HD688 will come out soon.

Guys, i require a bit of you awesome knowledge again. I love my modded 662s (can't wait for 688, but that's another story). I'd like to get a pair of IEMs for work. Looked around last night, came to RHA MA750 (which surprisingly, i can get in Romania). Any idea how these compare to the 662evo? Should i consider something else or just get another pair of 662s?
Much appreciated, as always.

Thanks for sharing So apparently they have a few models coming out soon. Awesome. And the earpad floating in the bowl is an "interesting" presentation choice.

They will go into production this month (thanks to Tony from Superlux for the info) and hopefully they will be available soon. I still have hopes of getting a pair this year.

Try this (quality is decent for youtube)
And yes, some things are better than on the HD650's.

Indeed...fun is such a vague term. What I like the most about the 662EVO when compared to the HD650 are the deep bass (not overwhelming) and the benefits of being a closed HP. I do sometimes miss female vocals on HD650. By the way, did anyone get a chance to compare the 662EVO with Oppo PM3? I'm rather curious...

This time next year, you'll have a new one!!!! I've bought four of them since they came out.......... Hehehe Pretty sure I won't buy another HD650 since I enjoy the 662EVO more. As goggs said "Musically they're not in the same league." Okay...read Frans' post on the previous page, he explains it much better than I ever could. The 662EVO is more fun...and uhm...I like fun

Thanks guys. What a great design eh? Circular cups should have a bayonet mounting system. They're not too bad, pleasantly surprised to be honest. They're a bit tight though so I'll take a look at the video later and maybe adjust them. The cups are a little bit snug for me but coming from the HD 650's you get used to plenty of space. Sound-wise I'm impressed. They're not exactly holographic but everything's present. I will do the mod but not for a week or so. I need to get used to stock first. Owning a pair of HD650, is there really any reason to buy a pair of these? Apart from curiosity, that is. Honest question. You got a great answer (as always) from Frans, but let me just add that when the 662EVO came out i had a HD650 + homemade bottlehead crack tube amp - yes, the HD650 are superior in a few ways but I sold the HD650 even after Ian warned me not to. I'm really happy with the 662s and forever grateful to Frans for his work.

I understand Ian, and i know many people sold them and just purchased another pair later on. But i'm not sure i would since they are pretty expensive for me and right now i could use the money. I'll see if i can sell them here (in Romania) since shipping/payment to another country in EU is slightly more complicated.
I'm pretty happy with the sound from the tube amp i have and i do believe a Kameleon would make them even better but i really don't want to spend more money in the near future.

Yes, that's pretty much what i suspected. I currently have the HD650 with a homemade tube amp with Mullard NOS tubes and they are better than the 662evo in many ways. Sad to say that i think i'll sell the 650s because closed headphones work better for me at the moment and i find the 662EVO more fun.
