solderdude : This type of paper tape can do the same kind of seal of that paper-veil over the holes ? Medical paper tape look more alike: What do you think ?

Vocals are superb to me, with some EQ to reduce bass on some tracks; on others, it's not needed or not as much. I'm sure with mods they will be great. Agree. I don't doubt the quality.

If you use different source and also have a little different hearing than Solderdude some mods may not suit your needs the best. Who can tell better than you what amount and quality of bass do you want etc. Maybe he came up with much better solution but right now the best you can do is experiment yourself and some mods are easy to apply and reversible. I already know that. On my 681 Evo i have do the half felt mod at start, following Soldedude's advice, then i have removed it and do the same thing with toilet paper. Half on driver (fixed with tape without cover the holes around), plus another ply over everything, liking that better. There's no need to rush.

I can say that the unexpected drop above 16Khz you have talked about in the proto appear the same to me, doing an audiocheck.

I also need to experiment how much fillering put in the cups, so i think it's better so solve the hole's dilemma, before doing that.

Thanks for the tip, but we are talking about a hole covered with some paper-like material, in the prototype. It's just that i'm not sure of what to put on that, because i want to replicate solderdude's job, before think of try something different. Construction-wise yes, leaving the driver aside Superlux headphones are junk, but i like more a wide soundstage then something musical but congested.

Using a decent Beyerdynamic cable right now, it reduces the microphonic issue but i think it's mostly caused by how the short cable is placed in the plastic housing. Otherwise, i have no comfort issues. superluc - do you have any issues with the 6-7k peak? seems fine on most tracks...not sure. Yes, it's the short cable. On my 681 Evo i have take that away, because i lose one channel and those internal wires needed to be soldered again, and then i have not feel the same kind of microphonics, even if i have use for doing that one of the cables from the package. In regard to the highs, with the paper i don't feel them peaky, just a hint of that sometimes, but i still need to mods the cups, so i don't have doubts on that. Take it with a grain of salt, but maybe i was expecting more air in the sound, even considering that the 681 Evo are semi-open and this ones closed, but i have try to put up a bit the EQ after 16Khz on the 688 and everything feel more as i want. Anyway, at now without EQ the bass is all over, and i'm not using a newer pair of pads, but the used velour of my 681.

Playing a bit with the EQ, for put down that FAT bass and gain something above 16Kh, with Evo's velour and 1 ply of toilet paper, i'm starting to understand the potential. At fist they leave me very unimpressed and the fit was so atrocious, on stock condition. With that much pressure and the internal tin cloth, the ears hurt after almost a second.
Before starting to mod the cups i need to understand what to do with that unneeded hole.

It sure need to be cover it, since the six holes in the proto was, but with what material ?

Also, compared to the prototype, out of the 6 port holes, only 5 are now covered by the paper like material. Only had a few minutes for a quick listen - everything seems good, vocals are amazing. I think the 6-7k peak is still there, will test at home with some toilet paper. Now for the weird part - i changed the pleather pads and their thin cloth with the HD662 velour pads with their 2mm foam disc and the bass/subbass has increased considerably, it's now more pronounced than on HD662 (maybe due to the foam disc?). With the pleather pads, the bass is lower than on modified HD662. Could be that i'm wrong, it was just a first impression, will check at home. Same finding, and that hole seem weird. I think that solderdude may have measure it with pleather Evo's pads, different than the one mounted here. With velour and foam disk from Evo clarity seem lacking, there is too much bass. It may be that hole's fault ?

The pads are a bit too thin, and my ears hit the foam covering the driver pretty hard. If there is too much pressure, try this:

I still see them as available in 2-5 days. Doesn't matter, been waiting for a year...what's a few more days? I'm curious if there are any changes compared to the prototype. I was telling about the order status, not 688's page, that is returned to 2-5 days. Anyway, i agree. Let's just hope that the stock 688 is really the same as the proto, our hype is real
