Ah, i have misunderstand. You was referring to the hybrid wish of dmcrimson.
Strange to see an hybrid with velour inside, normally they have leather outside and inside, with the velour only where they touch the skin.

I have bought the higher 'comfy pads' they don't measure well nor sound that great, they reduce bass and increase the 5kHz region. The ones i'm using ( see the other thread ) ? Sealing is not that good with them, the surface is not plain. It was a choice of need for me, anyway. My ears are damn picky, between size, deep, pressure and heat I have try also a pair of costly pads ( angled, leather, with the inner oval shaped ) and they sound better on the HD688, but now my ears burn

You can try a cotton pad. Good compromise was for the HD687 is one cotton pad and no original foam pad. Two cotton pads was more flat up to 10kHz, after that upper frequencies had lowered quite much. I have not tested the HD688 with cotton pads. The cotton was over everything ? Right now i'm like this: headaudio.weebly.com/clanky/modifikujeme-akg-k712-pro with two felt disk donut cutted (the hole is like 50 € cents more or less), leaving the voice coil free, and fixed with some tape at the edges of the baffle. The result is interesting, just maybe not the best for the bass, but easy to do. Now they are way less edgy.

Hi again. Recently i have try to find another kind of solution for improving them a bit, using those deep pads, 2 pieces of toilet paper's ply over the holes ( 1 screwed a bit the imaging, imho ), following the advices of Solderdude on the cups ( foam cutted, adding felt, hole's modification on the driver ). I was using them with 1 ply of paper over the entire driver and the foam disk of the HD681EVO, but i wasn't that convinced by the results, at least with those pads, that are very comfortable anyway. So i have take away the paper and the disk and cut a disk of the same measure, but of synthetic felt, around 1.5mm of thickness, when measured with my caliper. I feel them more smooth now, but strangely also more airy. Isn't that strange ? Dunno, is like i feel that the felt address better some peaks and resonances than what was doing the combo paper/foam disk, at least with those leatherette's pads with their fixed internal foam. Take that with a grain of salt, but i think it was worth it overall. They still need some EQ around 3k, obviously.

Outer diameter ? 10 cm ?

Someone have also try to take away, from the upper part, a portion of the paper circle that cover the other ports, and place it on the hole ? It's better to just use some ply of toilet paper and try to find a personal balance there, than have the same material ?

After some of the mods the 688 seem to me a bit too much bassy/warm, but i still need to raise the pads and then listen to them a few hours.
Before doing that i want to do some (cheap) pads rolling and then decide what to do on them.
Thanks for all the tips.

Every single slit of the drivers need to be half open ? EDIT: What exactly there is to gain on doing that ? I'm a bit afraid...

Thanks a lot.

The dip seems to be caused by resonances and break-up of the cone. It may be hard to equalize without negative effects. Too bad

Haven't tried is yet but possibly with some EQ in the 'missing' area it may well sound better. May be very interesting to also see your opinion once EQed. I use the MathAudio headphone EQ plugin on Foobar. Any advice on some parametric or graphic equalization, for those huge dips, can be useful.

I made another mod when using the Superlux HD681EVO velourspads (Chinese e-bay pads may differ, they may not) The pads were 'raised' a few mm with window sealing stuff creating more space between the driver and ear. This resulted in slightly more clarity and more room. Will take pictures and post them. Maybe even produce a modfication guide. Thanks

Anyway, even if solderdude find a way to clean a bit this mess, and i very hope so, wait all the time is needed and thank him for anything can find and do, i don’t buy any Superlux headphone anymore. Build-wise they can’t sell this crap over 30€, and i can’t stand the fact that they have said to solderdude that the 688 in production was the same as the prototype, as you can see in the 687’s thread. We also don't even know if they have do that on purpose, like for reuse or sell the original driver, or just mod and listen like a bunch of amateurs. Pay them blindly something overpriced, with a lot of already said negatives on the construction, was like a test of trust on them, that they didn’t pass. Sorry if i bother about it, but this is my point of view. Good modding to everyone

Already measured it with HD681 velours + felt + hole closed. Makes no difference for the 3-5k dip. Will try a lot more, including modding the rear damping of the driver. Time is limited though... They really messed up... Now we can only wait and hope for your findings

Can you try to also measure them with 681 velours pads and the foam disk, with the hole closed ?
