Also these need better ear pads like Brainwavz XL sheepskins, fits like a glove And I was so damn suprised of sound stage / details. I did not expect to be this good. Angled or normal ? Those HM5 pads don't press too much each other on the lower part, if mounted on the 688 and leave them somewhere ? Are you using a stand for them ? If possible, i may be interested to see a pair of HM5 pads tested, because, after more use, i feel the ear space here much more problematic than in the 681 Evo. In the 688 the driver's shield is too close and protrusive, while in the stock 681 Evo it was in the rear, covered by the felt and obviously the pad's disk. Even taking away the felt and adding toilet paper, like i have do on mine pair of Evo, only the circle that previously hold the felt may tickle sometimes, at least on my ears, and the overall pressure is a lot less. But it's a mod, so it's mine fault if there is some contraindication in doing that. But here, and thinking about the awful fit on stock condition... Normal ones and no stand yet. Probably going to buy cheap Chinese. Im on phone so sorry quoted everything.

I am really happy with the 688. Yes, in stock form they need some modifications so that's why i will wait for solderdude's advice - after thousands of forum pages and many wasted hours he's the only whose ears i trust and whose general preferences are similar to mine (him and a few other on this forum). Don't mind superlux build quality, never had any issues with any of their headphones (681 x3, 681 evo, 662 evo). Can use them all day long without any comfort problems, but i know some can't. Do i wish they were as comfortable as HD650? Obviously. Vocals are superb to me, with some EQ to reduce bass on some tracks; on others, it's not needed or not as much. I'm sure with mods they will be great. Vocals are quite fine, Airy. I added some photo print paper (donut shape) to cover the holes on front side. Much better. More solid.. But this definetely needs bass mod. Cups are too light material and resonates bretty much. I'm gonna add plasticine inside the cups, I did that too to HD662F.
