Look at the HD688 frequency response, waterfall and the impulse response. U can find similarities and alot cheaper. I would not buy for that price.

Mm. That I was thinking too. It's a shame. Retailers sold approx 70€ and now its only 50€. Superlux as company could have made it better or perform atleast same as the protoype.

The prototype could be modified to perform really well. The production version doesn't measure as well and lacks clarity but certainly at lower listening levels sounds quite nice. An enjoyable headphone for sure but requires 10 Euro extra for pads but is 10 Euro well spend. Can't turn it up to loud levels though. Could it be just lower quality materials / assembly of the driver? They did not give u any answer of that?

Production's model a bit steep drop between 3-5 kHz. Otherwise it seems OK. Is there a way to improve subbass?

Maybe filter mod is done but I don't mind if I don't have to do the EQ work It's easy to solder some components. Also I would not mind if Solderdude would give some EQ settings to smoother frequency response. That would be the easiest and fastest way to fix frequency response and for the tonal balance but not the quality of itself. If that makes any sense.

Seems good, that HD687. I wonder if they did that on purpose to promote higher cost headphones on AKG.

I did not know that Quad makes headphones. I have pair of Quad 12L loudpseakers powered with tube amplifier. OK sounding. A bit warmer side.

I could also buy it and measure it, maybe even modify it and then forward/sell it to you if you want. No extra charge for shipping and mods... ! Deal!

All I can say is I don't get the love some people give to the HD700. It just sounded way 'off' to me. Admittedly it was at the same time I was listening/measuring Susvara, HE1000, LCD3 and other flagships. Both HD800 and T1 were not listenable for me without EQ. Use the HD800 with EQ and think that sounded better than Utopia (4k$) next to it. Without EQ the Utopia and even Clear are 'more pleasant' to my ears. Well, aside from the 'sharpish' character of the Utopia. The DT250 is linear but for me too coarse in the treble. Were that treble more refined and the channel imbalance addressed I would have kept a DT250. Owned the K501 ... shortly. The lack of body and limited power handling (starts to distort pretty soon) and limited types of music were downsides. No idea about the production HD687, too expensive to buy just for measurements unless it could easily be sold... which I don't think it will. They are now 39€ on thomann. I can buy those in Finland only 50€ (shipping costs included). I don't have measurement equipment but I love my modded HD688. Maybe I should just blindly buy those and give some small review of those.

I have a pdf with various pads on the HD681. Including the K240 pads. The K240 pads have almost the same 'sound' as the Superlux velours pads. The Superlux pads are much cheaper though. There is quite a difference in sound between the pleather pads and velours pads. I suspect the newer HD681 have a less bassy character as the early ones but need to buy and measure one to confirm. There are various iterations from the K240 all having a different sound. I have less than 5 years a go bought HD681's and they are quite thin on subbass and boosted upper frequencies. Modded HD688 sound much better. I used some cheap hybrid pads on those HD681 and genuine leather on HD688. I don't have orignal pads to the HD681 but I liked those hybrids pads slightly more than thick pleather pads. I need to test those cheaps pads on my HD688 too.

People get hyped and price increase? Doh. Thank god that did not happen with latest Superlux's. Already a bit over pricey.

This is long shot but AMD has TrueAudio technology. Software can use GPU power to calculate all the effects to the sound in real tinme. You need only a basic sound card / DAC. There is two big downsides. You need an AMD graphic card and a game that support it and there few games that support it. Games that support TrueAudio: Murdered Soul Suspect (consoles only), Star Sitizen, Thief and Lichdom: Battlemage. Star Sitizen is going to be big on audio side. Worth the wait. And TrueAudio Next is now integrated to Steam. We have to now wait for games gpuopen.com/trueaudio-next-now-integrated-steam-audio/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD_TrueAudio

After mod ur measurements looks quite good. I like That would be awesome if they could use that on final version and do ur mods because it does not make sense not to use on production model. Suck an easy step.

Never heard the Pro 80. What I understand is that the Pro 82 is an improvement over the Pro 80. Am listening to the HD672 at this moment. Another comfortable cheap Chinese headphone. A VAST improvement over the previous prototype. This is supposed to be the production model but it misses the Superlux logo and name shield. Will be doing a write-up on it. Also on the somewhat inferior HD671 which is the closed version. They look nice on photos. Do you have production models from both?

Ah, that it seems then. Thank u again. I got inspiration somehow. I got feeling these lacked a bit of punch/speed on entire frequency range. I did go a step further modding the grill. I covered the entire driver grill with foam sticks. Better dynamics. I can now say there is layers! Easy to do but needs a hour to do and thick earpads. Fast acoustic guitars was slightly edgy and messy without that mod. Now it's clearer, less edgy and persistent. Also on bass it's easier to hear variations. Vocals quite same very lively. Edit. Hmm. I was still not happy with the bass. I added thick foam ring to the driver port in the back. It lowered rumble but upper bass is now more prominent. Faster and lower. Not sure if I keep this but I like the punch on this. I added also +3 dB low shelf filter for 25 Hz to compensate. Subbass is now more like gentle summer breeze. I used Solderdude a picture as guide
