i had been using one of these with my micro www.msdist.co.uk/product_MikroTik-5V-USB-Power-Injector.phpwith a mascot linear psu with universal output adapter. the output plug could be rotated to change polarity. i assumed the above injector cable would want centre pin +. dont suppose anyone knows if this is correct? i am just thinking could this have goosed my micro?

No idea Simon but provided the micro is isolated from USB power, why an external PS?

No idea Simon but provided the micro is isolated from USB power, why an external PS? i thought this was the recommended thing to do, but judging by your question, i guess i got the wrong end of the stick. i was led to believe upping the amp rating for the 5v usb supply would benefit. is this not similar to what the ifi iusb unit does?

AFAIK the amp can draw all the amps it needs fron either the USB port or the internal battery. More so if the former is v3.0 or 3.1 that double the amperage of v2.0.

i heard back from Amr/Ifi today and sure enough it needs a new board. they have not heard one fail like this before. hopefully they will provide some insight into what caused the failure.

my micro is due back today and i want to do some comparisons with my mojo. is it ok to have more than 1 usb audio device installed, or will there possibly be conflicts?

It'll be the 1st time I hear a firmware update has burnt a PCB but as 5.1 basically deals with DSD and DoP if you are not going to upsample you might aswell stay on 5.0

Most likely thing that can go wrong with a f/w update is you brick the device.
I'm with Javier. If it ain't broke don't fix.

thankfully, since it was revived by AMR/IFI, it has performed without fault.
if that dont give it "the kiss of death" i dont know what will.
