solderdudeJust wondering if you've had the chance to give the 2nd gen. a good listen. I see that the RT has gotten some pretty good reviews over on ASR. I'm not entirely sure if it'd be too "Harmon" for me, and I haven't been able to figure out if the tuning can be changed with just filters and earpads. I'm guessing the Noire has a sig that's more similar to the 1st gen.? I would like to grab a 2nd. hand pair, I'm just not sure which one.

As far as 6N3 tubes go, most folks will say the Western Electric 396A is the one to get. Of course if you want a "proper" one (ie. '50s vintage, not counterfeit), it'll probably cost more than your amp.
Myself? I have a GE 5670 triple Mica. Not too bad, but on the brighter side of the spectrum. I also have a Reflector 6N3 that's pretty decent. Both can be had for reasonable prices.

IMO, the felt mods were pretty noticeable. They did flatten the bass hump nicely. I only had one thickness of felt (1mm same as Solderdude's original mod), so I can say how different materials would sound. I would've gone for the AKG material, but it doesn't seem available in Canada and shipping from the US is absurdly expensive. Never did get around to building the passive filter. IMO however, I'm also happy with the stock sound. Thank you! The akg mod doesn't look that crazy priced from the US (https://m.thomannmusic.com/akg_foam_net_pad_piece_k_240.htm) so I could give it a before and after test. What type of double sided tape do you use? I'm assuming we just need to use something not too strong that keeps it in place so it can be removed in the future without sticking to the magnets. Even though we share a common border, shipping from the US to Canada is ridiculously expensive. If I can buy something like this and have it shipped from China for free, why does it cost $25 to ship from US? Now that I'm done ranting… I just used some leftover tape I had from those window film kits you put up in the Winter. IIRC, Frans used carpet tape. I was thinking maybe blutack might work too. Put a small bead around the magnet and then mash the felt into it. The problem I had with the tape I used is that the felt just didn't stick well to it. I'd think the blutack would kind of mat up into the felt fibres and stick better?

Damn, that's a good find. I'll have to grab one myself. It should be pretty easy to attach it to my Grado with some double-side tape, and it won't be nearly as ugly as the yellow foam/white burn-netting I'm using now.
What headphone are you using this for anyways?

You could always use chunks of memory foam. I picked up a big piece at Walmart for dirt cheap and cut a strip for the headband on my Grados. Works great and still holding up quite well after a few years of use. It quite ugly looking on the other hand, I don't dare wear them out of the house

Some good news for a change! I can only imagine the relief you must have from finally feeling "normal" again. On the other hand I don't think I can endorse the no meat thing. There is a reason why it's so delicious Sometimes I think doctors must get their salaries paid by the drug companies. I just quit taking some meds (given to me to counteract the side-effects of the other meds I'm taking). After walking around for 2 days feeling extremely lightheaded I checked my blood pressure. It was 104/60, stupid low for me, which explains how I felt.

There's been a fair bit of positive chatter about some of the Moondrop iems on HF. I don't remember off the top of my head if the KXXX has been mentioned. The "discovery" thread is constantly flooded with new iems from China. Sometimes it's hard to separate the wheat from chaff or even tell if something is just the flavour of the month, but if there's a member that you know well enough to trust their opinions on sound, its a start. I grabbed a BLON BL03 based on some of the reviews. (btw ever check out www.audioreviews.org/? Jurgen seems to be a pretty much no BS reviewer). It's another carbon drivered, HK-ish tuned iem. Kind of wonky fitting due to short nozzles, but there's something about the sound… Nice and smooth, quite organic sounding. Not the greatest in details, maybe a tad too boosted in the midbass, but I can listen to them for ages. And they're only $30. There is a BL05 model just released that is supposed to have the same sound but better fit. I might need to take a closer look into some of these Moondrops

Jeez, they're not even going to test you? Here in Alberta, anybody with so much as a a sniffle gets a covid test now. I'd think with you having symptoms that long you'd probably be negative, but I'm not a doctor.
My dad was almost poisoned to death, twice, by the pills he was taking for his irregular heartbeat. Doctors completely dismissed the idea it was the pills causing anything - even though bad side-effects are widely documented. It wasn't until the second time he ended up in hospital that they did a biopsy and realised that he'd die if he kept taking them.
One blood pressure pill my Dad was taking had severe cough as a side-effect. I can't remember the name however.

Where is the USB port you're using? I've read that many people have issues using USB ports on the PC's front panel (usually connected via umbilical). Apparently it's far better using the USB that are directly connected to the motherboard. I can't confirm this, I've been a laptop user for ages now.

I agree. It's starting to sound <hah> like either a latency or buffer issue. If you see a "USB streaming mode" option anywhere, try using "safe". Originally, I couldn't use my X3 as DAC without god-awful amounts of noise/clicks on any setting other than safe Also, are you using a dedicated USB driver? The stock Windows installed driver could be causing issues where should i look for "usb streaming mode" ? If you installed a driver then there should be a control panel with it. You should find an entry in the Start menu or an icon should appear in your system tray (device may need to be plugged in for it to show) From there you can click on the icon to get the options settings: The pics from the Fiio control panel are pretty much identical to the Xmos panel for my D30.

I get a similar click on my Shanling M2s if I use it in DAC mode. Shanling was able to confirm the issue, but could only reproduce it on certain PCs and it seemed like Hiby (the guys that actually wrote the firmware for it) didn't want to bother trying to fix it. (Thankfully Shanling is writing their own firmware now)
I guess the standard troubleshooting would apply for you. Try different USB cables and ports. Check for any updated USB drivers. Try different buffer sizes/speeds. Oddly my M2s would play click free if I upscaled everything to DSD - maybe try and see if that helps.

Sweet little unit. The only thing that stopped me from getting one is my stubby, clumsy fingers.
I hear the M2x and M5x are pretty nice as well. Sound wise I can't complain about my M2s. The firmware maybe is another story, but Shanling is writing their own software now (as opposed to contracting it out to Hiby) and the new devices are apparently much better for it.

How's the dial/wheelie thing on the side work? Is it just volume, or does it do selection too?
I know one of the unresolved complaints with the X5 mkII was the wheel response. I'm not too thrilled with the wheel selector on my Shanling M2s either - half the time it's too sensitive, the other half not enough, and the sensitivity settings doesn't seem to make much, if any difference to me.
