The 10,000 peak did surprise me on the original graph that you posted. I don't hear it anything like as strong as it suggests, but the Goldenears graph seems closer to what I think is right. Certainly the bass, but the peaks aren't as exaggerated as the first graph in the treble, although they re in the same places. Now they're down in price, they are a worthwhile headphone really. Extremely comfortable and sound like floorstanders in a room that's a bit small for them!!! I can't find any review of them on GE! The plot came from the Korean GE. There hasn't been any activity on the English site, but this has happened before though. ko.goldenears.net/board/index.php?mid=GR_Headphones&page=2&document_srl=5092145The GE graphs are 'smoothed' with 1/3 octave which is pretty 'smoothing'. This way large peaks nad dips (that may be measurement artifacts) get ironed flat and appear less prominent. In reality the peak may be there but may also be exaggerated and thus a measurement artifact of the other guy who measured them. The GE plots are made with a professional manekin, the other ones I do not know.

It looks as though the ah-d7100 might be going. I've just noticed that Amazon no longer offer them new. The 600 is still there at £199 though. I still like them with their big bass. In fact it's not the bass that is so problematic, but the comparatively steely treble. It is what I'd describe as quite a 'hard' treble with mids slightly down. However, they are really good from an IPad or whatever since they are so easily driven.
Another good closed can is the Yamaha MT220. Overlooked imo. It's more balanced than the d600 and has a nice 'lucid' bass with an openness that is unusual in closed headphones. Not as flat as the Roland headphones that I have, but more 'colourful' sounding. They can be had for around £120 new. Or for big bass, the DT770 of course. Some find the top end a bit much, but I'm fine with them myself. (250 ohms version, not 80)
I might keep a look out for cheap 7100s though.

I hadn't seen them. They look really nice. Heck of a price again though.
Maybe d600 and 7100 just haven't done too well so they've moved on?

A wise decision to move on. For a company this size, It's easier to design and manufacture a new headphone, and sell for a higher R.R.P. than continue to source the O.E.M manufacturer and continue to compete and discount the product at the current price.

d600's arrived today. initial visual impressions were really good. not a mark on them! (ex demo) so no problem with the seller. the disappointing thing, for me , is the isolation or lack of it to me. my wife's d1100 clamps tight and isolates really well, so i had high hopes for these. unfortunately even on my large noggin they are a tad loose, so not sure if i will be keeping them. i do not know if the headband would withstand bending to increase clamping force.(?)
sound wise, i wanted warm, i got warm alright maybe a tad excessive . i guess eq would improve this, but i am not looking for perfect sound quality anyway. the main thing for me was isolation , so i could sit in the living room once in a while and listen to music while others watch tv.
as i got these at a fraction of original rrp i am reluctant to send them back for a refund. i figure i will keep them and use them for now and replace them down the line if something with better isolation comes along. i dont think i would lose too much when moving them on.

That's a shame, Simon. Have you tried lifting the headband. With mine, I have the Beyer padding on the top to lift the cups and the. They sit flat. Without it, I find the cups don't sit right. I lift them at the bottom of the cups and drop them so that I get a good seal. They are really big. Have you tried pushing down on the cups to see if they seal better?
Tv doesn't bother me too much when I'm listening on them tbh.
Try them with a film. I really like them for that.

extending the cups out just one notch on each side has increased the seal as you suggested mate. much improved. plugging them into my Ember as opposed to my x1 moves them to another level, which is to be expected i suppose.

The seal doesn't need to be tight. Just even all round. We tend to think it has to be tight to seal, but not always the case when the pads are so soft. Just get the cups parallel to the side of you head. You may need to lift the band like I did.
They do respond to amping. They need a lot of current to really go .... especially with all that bass going on.
I go from TV to amp and they give a massive dynamic range.
Funnily enough, I didn't like them for a couple of days until I hit a good recording, when I thought .... Wow. They sound huge. They have an impressive sound.
Not accurate like my K550, but they portray this huge depth of sound. Resist going too loud. It's very easy to do without realising!!
Whoever designed them had a very odd head.

i think they may have hit the spot just with the adjustment i mentioned. lightly pressing the cups to my head now makes very little difference, whereas it did when the cups were fully retracted. back in the X1 now and sounds much better. not a bad portable setup for £240. i am trying my hardest not to think about a Kameleon. ;-)

I don't think Frans has designed a card for a D600. It's certainly a big sound for portable. Not many setups will give that kind of weight and authority to music. To me, it sounds like a pair of floorstanders.
Maybe try lifting the headband might make the seal more solid? The cups 'honk' a bit when the seal isn't right. The resonances become very pronounced.
