Wow! Impressive. It really does set it apart. Bet it will even sound better to "some" as well. Looking forward to the new look on my (again working beautifully, thanks to Jeremy) Ember.

I was putting the top-plate back on the Ember this afternoon and I got to thinking. I know, steady lad, lol. Anyway, would the anodized finish of the aluminium top-plates not be subject to gradual degradation when tightening up the top nuts on the columns? Perhaps those little felt or neoprene washers might be an idea. It's just a thought.

It will be scratched but when the thumb screws are in place, any marring will be covered. One can add felts or washers or whatever the like though!

I'm kind of tuned into bass as long as it isn't mid bass hump. Many think that a headphone with bass is going to sound bassy, when in fact, they just go lower down when the bass is there on the recording. I didn't notice just how massive the differences were with the HD650 on a filter until really low bass came in. It's then when you realise just what you're missing down there and don't seemto notice. If the treble is rolled off, we notice, but not so much the deep bass.
I like the Neco desktop as well Mick. I have one here with a Little Pinky power supply. Very clean sounding and on headphones with good resolution, that must be important.

I bet. I don't like fat bassy headphones myself, but if anything, I enjoy a mid bass hump if there is no deep bass. It kind of compensates in a way. Once the really low stuff is there, you no longer need the hump and it thuds away, out of reach of everything else. I love that in a good headphone, but so few actually do it. That's the biggest problem, since until you actually hear it, you don't really know exactly what you're missing. Since the Kameleon went back to Frans, I find myself off of the HD650. It doesn't sound right any longer and yet, the changes were not too massive. The thing I miss the most is the really deep bass. So I may well go the same kind of route as you since I'm retiring now and want something half decent at home. All the cheapos will go and I may get something better, perhaps along with a filter for the HD650 and keep that one. The rest will go. My reviewing of headphones will dry up then!!! I've been thinking about a higher end headphone for a long time, but just can't settle for one because of my basic mistrust of all headphones!!

OMG Mick. That's extremely generous of you. See how you feel about sending something like that in the post a few days later!!! I'd be a nervous wreck doing that. I've been considering a Fostex for some time. Along with the Senn 800 which I've gone off of because of the top end. Also some of the Beyers. If I decide to get something decent, it'll be next month probably. With headphones, it's always touch and go what you end up with and whether you like them and at those price levels, it gets quite risky unless you can find one in a shop. For me, it's now or never. So everything here will be going and they will be replaced by the Senn and something decent. On top of that .... A home studio and house repairs!! Then it's time to relax, at last.
