The wife wants me to stop. My health scare got her panicked. So a home studio and a posh headphone is on the cards so that if I get the urge, I just need to go to the bottom of the garden to work on just stuff that takes my fancy. The headphones are just for me to enjoy as a nice luxury. So I've seen all my obligations through since then and I actually have permission to try and take it easy. Reality might be different. I don't know.
I've been looking at Hifiman stuff as well. I must admit, I do like the t40 and t50 a lot so that got me looking at the better Fostex headphones.
Been looking for some time and really can't decide. For me, the tone has to be right. Can't abide thin edgy sounds. That's basically one reason why I took the Senn off my list. Apparently, it's pretty bright, which I wouldn't like. The 900 is warmer I hear. Looks lovely too. It has a slight lift in the bass, which I do like. It goes very low as well, which I love to hear in a headphone.

Hi Javier, The micro looks interesting, my friend sells those, which could be a bonus. According to the website the Teac doesn`t seem to have any British retailers! Thank you. Mick. Correction, Amazon does, but it would be more expensive than the Ifi Micro! audio affair and peter tyson both sell the teac. peter tyson had it reduced by £200 towards the end of last year.

That is true, the UD501 is £532.26 at Amazon and £500.41 at Thomann both inc. shipping, so between £85-117 more expensive. Jussi, the developper of HQPlayer, has both and he favours the 501 over the iDSD but he said the differences are rather small (he talks mainly about measured performance) but the Micro has the advantage when it comes to flexibility supporting a much broader range of formats in PCM and DSD. IMO either, the iFi or the TEAC, beat the Fostex in many areas but horses for courses....

Slightly o/t here but I followed Javier's link to iFi and came across this.. ifi-audio.com/products/retro/Fair play to any company with the balls to bring this gear to market. I wonder how it sounds.
